Damaging Wind Event...

A severe thunderstorm moved through Bexar County between 8:45 PM
and 10:00 PM on Friday, August 28th, causing widespread tree
damage along a corridor from northeast Bexar County, through
central San Antonio, and into southwest Bexar County. Scattered
structural damage also occurred. Additionally, significant damage
to power lines resulted in over 110,000 customers losing power at
the peak of the storm.

Storm surveys and radar data indicate that the damage is
consistent with straight-line winds. Measured wind speeds reached
55 to 65 mph. Pockets of 70 to 80 mph winds were likely,
estimated from radar and the resulting damage.

The damage path was approximately 35 miles long, stretching from
near Live Oak southwest into the Alamo Heights and Five Points
areas, across the west side of San Antonio to Lackland AFB, and
ending near Macdona in southwest Bexar County. The damage was
around 2 miles wide in northeast Bexar County, but widened to
roughly 5 miles on the west and southwest sides of San Antonio,
consistent with macroburst characteristics.
