Survey Summary:
A National Weather Service survey team, with additional help from
spotter video footage, has concluded a tornado occurred in far
northeast Burnet County during the late afternoon of May 1st. The
tornado formed just west of County Road 223, about 1/10 of a mile
from the Burnet/Lampasas County line. The tornado continued south
along County Road 223 and the Lampasas River for a short distance,
then turned southwest crossing Panther Creek Road. After this, and
based on chaser accounts, the tornado may have briefly lifted and
reformed. The tornado then turned southeast following along and
just east of County Road 223. The tornado is estimated to have
dissipated near Taylor Lane. Due to the nearly continuous damage
path this is listed as one tornado.

Along the tornado path significant damage was observed, include
trunks of trees snapped and damage to homes and outbuildings.
Based on damage the peak wind of the tornado was estimated to be
up to 110 mph (EF-1) around Panther Creek Road to the 4000-5000
block of County Road 223. A home along Panther Creek Road had the
garage destroyed and a significant portion of the roof to the
home removed. A multipurpose garage/outbuilding on top of a hill
had the west side of its cinder block walls collapse inward along
with a metal framed roof collapsing down. At least four homes
received major damage. In each of these cases high winds impacted
these building at their weakest points, contributing to the
degree of damage.

One minor injury was reported to the driver of a delivery truck
that was flipped on its side.

A special thanks to Burnet County Office of Emergency Management
and Northeast Burnet County Fire and Rescue for their assistance
in the survey and drone footage.
