Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio TX
635 PM CDT Mon Jul 21 2025

...New AVIATION...

.KEY MESSAGES...

- Seasonably warm July weather with elevated heat indices.

- Low chances for rain and thunderstorms Friday through the
  weekend over the Coastal Plains.

&&

.SHORT TERM...
(Tonight through Tuesday night)
Issued at 210 PM CDT Mon Jul 21 2025

A weak upper level low is producing mostly cloudy skies over
much of the CWA this afternoon. There is not enough deep layer
moisture for any showers. This feature will move away toward the
north during this period. The subtropical ridge will build over
the region from the east. Dry weather will continue through the
short term. This will be a persistence forecast. Temperatures
will be within a few degree of normal with lows in the 70s and
highs mostly in the 90s.

&&

.LONG TERM...
(Wednesday through Monday)
Issued at 210 PM CDT Mon Jul 21 2025

For most of the week, subtropical ridging will keep the weather
over South-Central Texas quiet. This will lead to warming
temperatures across our southern and western areas Wednesday
and Thursday. Despite the warming, temperatures will still be
within a few degrees of normal. An upper level trough will move
across the northern Gulf and approach TX by Friday. This will
bring a surge of deeper layer moisture. The deeper moisture and
lift from the trough will mean a chance for showers and
thunderstorms over the Coastal Plains each afternoon and evening
Friday through Sunday. The subtropical ridge will build back
over the region Monday bringing back dry weather.

Tuesday before gusty south/southeasterly winds and VFR cigs resume
for the rest of the forecast period. For KDRT expect VFR conditions
until 12Z with MVFR cigs taking hold until mid morning Tuesday with
VFR and gusty southeasterly winds thereafter.
