Interests in the Hawaiian Islands should monitor the progress of Fausto. DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 500 AM HST (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Fausto was located near latitude 19.1 North, longitude 136.5 West. Fausto is moving toward the west near 14 mph (22 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue for the next several days. Maximum sustained winds are near 100 mph (155 km/h) with higher gusts. Gradual weakening is forecast during the next several days. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 205 miles (335 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 971 mb (28.68 inches). SURF: Surf generated by Fausto is expected to begin building across east-facing shores of the eastern end of the state on Sunday, spreading westward Sunday night into Monday, and continue building through Tuesday as Fausto approaches and moves into the area.
