394 FXUS66 KEKA 270716 AFDEKA AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Eureka CA 1216 AM PDT Sun Jul 27 2025 .SYNOPSIS...Thunderstorm chances remain for Sunday afternoon. Near normal to slightly below normal temperatures expected into early this coming week. Another upper low could bring chances for thunderstorms mid week. && .DISCUSSION...Some mid-level moisture remains in the area making isolated thunderstorms possible for Sunday afternoon to evening in the Trinity Horn region. Chances of thunderstorms are less than 25%. Chances drop off for early this week. High pressure is expected to generally remain east of the area. This will keep temperatures near seasonal normals with highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. Coastal stratus is expected to form each night during this time with the potential for some clearing into the afternoons. Thunder potential generally looks to remain low. Ensembles are hinting at another upper-low forming right off the coast, which may return thunderstorm chances by mid this coming week. This thunderstorm potential will be monitored as the threat approaches. && .AVIATION...27/06Z TAFS, ceilings around 500-800 feet over coastal terminals tonight and Sunday morning are expected to dissipate by late morning into early Sunday afternoon in response to daytime heating and mixing. Onshore flow remains weak, but expect stratus to reform over North Coast terminals Sunday evening. Now, along the Mendocino coast, small scale eddy circulations may keep low clouds and IFR conditions locked-in along the shoreline through the day. Inland, VFR conditions are expected to prevail tonight and Sunday. Some low clouds and IFR conditions in the coastal river valleys will dissipate quickly by mid morning Sunday. Also, deep cumulus convection is forecast for Trinity County during the afternoon and evening Sunday. Moderate turbulence and low level shear, gusty outflow winds and heavy precip rates will also be possible in and around thunderstorms. && .MARINE...A weak pressure gradient between an offshore ridge and an inland trough will continue to maintain a gentle to moderate wind regime through Sunday. Stronger winds with gusts to 25-30kt are likely in the lee of Cape Mendocino. Seas are forecast to remain low and dominated by 2 to 5 foot wind waves and a 1 to 2 foot long period southerly swell. Highest wind waves will remain over the outer waters and in the lee of Cape Mendocino. Northerlies are forecast to increase next week, strongest over the outer waters and downwind of Cape Mendocino. && .EKA WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... CA... None.
