...NWS Damage Survey for 06/03/2025 Eastern KC and Independence,
MO Update 1...

.Overview...

A line of thunderstorms produced a circulation that resulted in
two tornadoes from eastern Kansas City, MO through Independence,
MO. UPDATE: The first tornado was previously only confirmed via a
radar debris signature for one radar scan, and video footage near
the Interstate 435 / Interstate 70 interchange. Followup survey
results found tree damage consistent with an EF-0 tornado
southwest of the Truman Sports Complex, beginning just west of
I-435. The second tornado through Independence, MO resulted in
several healthy trees being snapped, resulting in damage
consistent with an EF-1 tornado, with winds up to 100 MPH. Other
damage points were noted south of the circulation, but are
consistent with straight line winds.

Survey Summary:
Several healthy trees are snapped, and some were uprooted. The
largest trees that were snapped show consistency with EF-1 wind
speeds. We will continue to assess damage points after the release
of this preliminary report. Note that along the south side of the
circulation, wind speeds of 50 to 70 MPH likely occurred,
resulting loss of tree limbs between 1 to 3 inches in diameter.
