A surface low will move into the Great Lakes region through Wednesday bringing a trailing cold front into the Appalachians by late afternoon/evening. Ahead of the cold front, increasing southwest winds of 10-15 mph and limited boundary layer moisture should result in several hours of elevated fire weather conditions primarily across eastern WV and western VA. The breezy and relatively dry conditions (RH values of 25-35%) amid dry fuels and recent leaf fall will support an elevated fire weather threat following poor overnight RH recoveries in higher terrain. Locally elevated fire weather concerns could extend farther southwest into NC and farther northeast into southeastern PA but alignment of enhanced winds, low RH and dry fuels is limited. ..Williams.. 11/04/2025 .PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 1132 PM CST Mon Nov 03 2025/ ...Synopsis... An upper-level trough will move into the Great Lakes region on Wednesday. At the surface, a low will deepen as it moves eastward into the Northeast. A cold front will quickly shift eastward and reach parts of the Mid-Atlantic coast by Thursday morning. ...Piedmont... Ahead of the cold front, dry and modestly breezy conditions are possible within parts of the Piedmont and potentially farther east as well. Winds of 10-20 mph are probable. RH will be one of the main questions during the afternoon. Where greater heating or more of a downslope wind component off the Blue Ridge occurs, RH of 25-30% would be possible. Fuels also do not appear to be overly receptive. Locally elevated conditions are all that is expected. ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov/fire for graphic product... $$
