Day 1 Fire Weather Outlook
NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK
1153 AM CDT Thu Oct 02 2025

Valid 021700Z - 031200Z

...NO CRITICAL AREAS...

No changes were made for the Day 1 update with limited larger scale
fire weather concerns across the contiguous U.S. Deep layer
southwesterly flow ahead of an upper-level trough moving into the
West along with a dry, well-mixed boundary layer will promote
sustained southwest winds of up to 20 mph this afternoon across
southern NV and western UT. Breezy southwest winds combined with RH
as low as 15% will support localized elevated fire weather
conditions but fuels remain subdued in supporting large fire growth,
keeping the fire weather threat relatively low.

.PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 1258 AM CDT Thu Oct 02 2025/

...Synopsis...
Fire weather concerns will remain limited for today across the
country. A diffuse surface trough draped across the Plains will
continue to weaken through the day, leading to modest winds across
the Plains where fuels have been slowly drying in the absence of
appreciable rainfall in recent days. An upper trough will begin
moving onshore across the West, resulting in broad surface pressure
falls across the Great Basin/Intermountain West. Latest model
consensus suggests 15-20 mph winds are likely from southern NV into
western UT with gusts around 25 mph possible. Mostly clear skies
will promote sufficient heating/mixing for RH reductions into the
teens, which will support scattered elevated fire weather
conditions. Despite this uptick, ERCs remain depressed after
widespread rainfall within the past week. As such, fire weather
concerns will remain low.
