Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
334 AM CDT Sat Oct 19 2024

Today:

Quiet weather remained across Iowa this morning, with clear skies
across at least the eastern half of the state, while clouds tracked
across western Iowa in association with a frontal boundary.
Temperatures as of 3am were in the 40s to 50s where skies were clear,
and warmer far west thanks to cloud cover, as values sat in the upper
50s to low 60s.

Expecting warm conditions once again today, with highs across Iowa in the
70s under mostly sunny skies. Southwest winds will increase later
this morning and remain through the afternoon, with gusts up to 15-20
mph at times. Despite dry conditions with RH values in the 20s today,
the lighter winds should mitigate any elevated fire weather concerns.
However, with very dry conditions, still would practice proper fire
weather safety, as fires are still able to easily ignite.

Tonight and beyond:

Quiet weather is expected to remain tonight, with overnight lows
falling into the upper 40s to mid 50s, along with light winds and
mostly clear skies.

The remainder of the weekend will remain dry with above average
temperatures, with values reaching into the upper 70s to low 80s. By
Monday, a chance remains for light rain and some isolated storms
mainly over southern Iowa. No severe weather is expected at this
time. By midweek, a cold frontal passage looks to bring more seasonal
temperatures back into the state, with values in the 50s to 60s
through the rest of the work week. This may come with light rain
chances over northern Iowa, though the overall potential is low at
this time.
