Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
357 AM CDT Fri Oct 18 2024

Today:

Quiet conditions remain early this morning across the region, with
clear skies across Iowa, along with fairly comfortable temperatures as
of 3am with values in the 40s to 50s. Light winds from the
south/southwest were noted for most of the state, though portions of
western Iowa have seen increasing winds with values around 20-30 mph.

Dry conditions are expected to continue today, with south/southwest
winds increasing across the rest of the state. Gusts are expected
generally between 25-35 mph, which paired with low humidity values,
dry grasses and crops, as well as warmer temperatures will lead to
elevated fire weather conditions. It is strongly recommended to avoid
burning of any kind if possible until conditions improve. Highs today
will reach the low to mid 70s.

Tonight and beyond:

Cloud cover is expected to increase mainly across the western half of
the state tonight into Saturday, but remain dry, with overnight lows
falling into the 40s and low 50s and weakening winds.

The weekend will see continued dry weather with above average
temperatures in the 70s to low 80s. By Monday, a chance for rain
returns, along with a few non-severe storms mainly over southern Iowa,
though appreciable rainfall by any means is not likely. Temperatures
remain warm for the time of year into much of next week, with values
in the 60s to 70s.
