Weather Summary for Iowa
National Weather Service Des Moines IA
405 AM CST Fri Nov 8 2024

Today:

Patchy fog has developed in some of the valley areas of Iowa early
this Friday morning. The thicker fog is reported in eastern Iowa from
near Monticello to Vinton to Oelwein. Temperatures are in the mid to
upper 30s east with upper 30s to lower 40s in the west. Winds are
light west southwest this morning and are already bringing in some
milder air to the region.

This afternoon high pressure will continue to exit the region while
an area of low pressure over the southwest slowly edges toward Iowa
tonight and Saturday. Highs today will reach the mid 50s to around
60 over all of Iowa. Winds will swing around to the east northeast
during the afternoon hours and remain light. Clouds will be on the
increase as well by afternoon into the evening hours.

Tonight and beyond:

Clouds will overspread the region tonight with showers already
entering southwest Iowa after midnight. By early Saturday morning, a
shield of showers will build northeast across the remainder of the
state by early to mid afternoon. Tomorrow will be very cool with
afternoon highs only reaching the mid to upper 40s north to the
lower to mid 50s south. With easterly winds and periods of showers,
a November chill will be in the air. The showers will become more
scattered after sunset in the south while northwest to northern
sections of Iowa will continue to see showers overnight. By Sunday,
only lingering showers are anticipated in the north before the
system pulls away. Later Sunday, some breaks in the clouds
and a little sunshine is anticipated toward evening. Lows Saturday
night will fall to the lower to mid 40s while highs Sunday will
reach the lower to mid 50s. Finally, on Veterans Day some sunshine
mixed with clouds will allow for afternoon highs to reach the upper
40s north to the upper 50s southeast. An additional chance for some
rainfall will arrive Tuesday night and Wednesday. Highs most of
next week will remain in the 40s to 50s with lows in the upper 20s
to mid 40s.
