A MONTHLY RECORD HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 62 DEGREES WAS TIED AT MASON
CITY, IOWA FOR JANUARY. THIS TIES THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 62 DEGREES
WHICH HAS OCCURRED ON JANUARY 25, 1944 AND JANUARY 26, 2002.

THE HIGH TEMPERATURE OF 62 DEGREES ALSO SETS THE NEW DAILY RECORD
HIGH TEMPERATURE FOR TODAY, JANUARY 30. THE PREVIOUS RECORD OF 49
DEGREES LAST OCCURRED IN 1964.

WEATHER RECORDS FOR THE MASON CITY AREA HAVE BEEN TAKEN FROM TWO
GENERAL LOCATIONS. INITIAL RECORDS WERE STARTED ON FEBRUARY 1,
1903 IN DOWNTOWN MASON CITY. THE REPORTING LOCATION REMAINED NEAR
DOWNTOWN UNTIL AUGUST 1, 1918 WHEN THE SUGAR MANUFACTURING FACILITY
NORTH OF TOWN TOOK OVER OBSERVATIONS. REPORTS CONTINUED AT THIS SITE
UNTIL JANUARY 1, 1948 WHEN THE CURRENT OBSERVATION SITE AT THE MASON
CITY AIRPORT BEGAN REPORTING.

TEMPERATURE, PRECIPITATION AND SNOWFALL RECORDS ALL BEGAN ON FEBRUARY
1, 1903.
