...NWS Damage Survey for 07/20/2026 Tornado Event...

.Overview...
Two short tornado paths have been identified in northern central
Iowa from Monday`s severe weather event. The first tornado formed
near Chapin, IA produced severe roof damage to a single family
residence, tree damage, and minor damage to a grain elevator on
the south end of town. East of the grain elevator the damage
pattern became much more intermittent as evident in a EMA
provided drone data. However, at about 0.5 miles east of town
unique convergent damage signature was evident in the corn field,
which was the end of the tornado track.

The second tornado formed about 1 mile northwest of Austinville
and traveled for about one mile to the southeast before lifting
just west of the town. A newly built farm outbuilding was
destroyed; along with other damage to a barn and silo. A
convergent data pattern was noted in EMA provided dronage data in
the corn fields adjacent to the farmstead.
