780 WWUS83 KDLH 261614 SPSDLH Special Weather Statement National Weather Service Duluth MN 1114 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026 MNZ011-012-261815- North St. Louis-Northern Cook and Lake- Including the cities of Ely and Isabella 1108 AM CDT Sun Jul 26 2026 ...SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS MAY AFFECT THE BOUNDARY WATERS CANOE AREA WILDERNESS THIS AFTERNOON AND OVERNIGHT... Severe thunderstorms are expected to affect the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness this afternoon and overnight tonight. The storms may produce damaging winds to 80 mph, large hail to tennis ball size, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and locally heavy rainfall. Thunderstorms could happen as early as 1 to 3 pm with the most likely time for thunderstorms between 2 and 6 pm and again from 10 pm to 4 am. Now is the time to prepare for the possibility of severe thunderstorms. Campers are urged to take extra precautions now in order to secure campsites and make a plan in case of severe weather. Check campsites for standing dead trees or limbs that may fall in strong winds. Prepare to protect yourself from large hail using sleeping bags or other padded items. sit on your personal floatation devices or sleeping pads to minimize your risk to lightning.
