.DISCUSSION...

Observations from the McQuade Harbor Nearshore Buoy since 0540 this
morning show a consistent NNE to E wind direction. The exception to
this consistent wind direction was around 0920-0930, when SSE winds
were reported, which is roughly when a thunderstorm outflow boundary
moved through. Following this outflow boundary, E to ENE winds have
been breezy at 20-30 mph.

Winds will briefly ease this evening to around 10 knots with gusts
of 15-20 knots. However, expect winds to increase again late
tonight with wind gusts in excess of 22 knots. Heading into
Sunday, gale-force wind gusts may be possible to around 35 knots
with wind direction remaining east to northeast. Expect waves to
build on Sunday morning, increasing up to 7 feet by Sunday
afternoon in the Knife River area. Precipitation is not expected
for the remainder of today through tonight. A Gale Watch remains
in effect from 10 am to 10 PM Sunday.
