.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 205 PM CDT Thu Apr 3 2025

Mild weather through Friday afternoon continues. An approaching
cold front Friday afternoon builds rain and snow shower chances
first in north-central Minnesota in the afternoon hours, which
spreads eastward in the evening. Any mixed rain/snow showers
turns over to all snowfall in the mid to late evening hours.
There is 80-90% confidence in at least a Trace of snowfall for
nearly all of northern Minnesota Friday night into early
Saturday morning. The highest expected snowfall (up to 2 inches)
is most likely (50-60% chance) along and north of the Iron Range.

Northerly flow behind the cold front by Saturday afternoon keeps
below normal temperatures in place for the rest of the weekend
and into early next week. A secondary vort max drops southward
late weekend to produce another, but lesser, amount of light
snow chances again Sunday.

High amplitude ridging sets up mid next week to allow a warming
trend to setup beginning Wednesday and especially notable into
Thursday when temperatures 10 to 15 degrees above normal are
possible (60-70% chance).

.AVIATION /18Z TAFS THROUGH 18Z FRIDAY/...
Issued at 1204 PM CDT Thu Apr 3 2025

Scattered to broken MVFR ceilings persist this afternoon, but
are expected to lift after 21Z and may be VFR after 00Z. A few
showers north of the Iron Ranger between 00-06Z this evening
may be in the vicinity of INL so a VCSH was placed in that TAF
through the later overnight hours. Fresh snow that melts may
(30-50% chance) create limited fog along and south of US Hwy 2
as pockets of clearing occur later tonight. Kept all sites MVFR
at this point, except DLH where an hour or two of IFR vis is
most likely towards the 09-12Z time period. Winds shift
southwesterly after 15Z.

.MARINE /FOR NEAR SHORE WATERS OF WESTERN LAKE SUPERIOR/...

6 feet lingering in the Apostle Islands are expected to weaken
throughout the day. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect until 4
pm today. Tonight and tomorrow, wind speeds are expected to fall
below 10 knots ahead of an incoming cold front, leading to a
wind shift from the northwest. No other hazardous conditions are
expected through Friday.
