Solar Activity

.24 hr Summary...
Solar activity reached moderate levels due to M-class flare (R1-Minor)
activity. The largest event was an M1.7 flare at 22/1851 UTC from a
region just beyond the southeast limb. On the visible disk, Region 4191
(N11E50, Dho/beta) produced the majority of C-class flares and showed
additional spot development. The remaining regions were stable. No
Earth-directed CMEs were detected in coronagraph imagery.

.Forecast...
Solar activity is expected to be low, with an increasing chance for
R1-R2 (Minor-Moderate) events through 25 Aug.

Energetic Particle

.24 hr Summary...
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was at normal to moderate levels.
The greater than 10 MeV proton flux became enhanced following flare
activity from the southeast limb, peaking near 1 pfu.

.Forecast...
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is likely to reach high levels on
23-24 Aug, then return to normal to moderate levels on 25 Aug. There is
a chance for the greater than 10 MeV proton flux to reach S1 (Minor)
storm levels on 23 Aug, with a slight chance for S1 levels on 24 Aug.

Solar Wind

.24 hr Summary...
Solar wind conditions were nominal. Total magnetic field strength ranged
from 1-5 nT, with the Bz component fluctuating between +4/-3 nT. Solar
wind speed gradually decreased from a peak near 575 km/s to around 465
km/s. The phi angle was predominately negative.

.Forecast...
Nominal solar wind conditions are expected to continue through 24 Aug.
Enhanced conditions are likely on 25 Aug due to the influences of a
negative polarity CH HSS.

Geospace

.24 hr Summary...
The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled.

.Forecast...
The geomagnetic field is expected to remain mostly quiet on 23-24 Aug.
Active periods are likely on 25 Aug due to the influence of a negative
polarity CH HSS.
