.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 210 AM CDT Fri Aug 22 2025

Western Kansas will experience a significant shift in its weather
pattern over the next seven days, transitioning from hot and sunny
conditions today to a much cooler and wetter period (starting this
weekend and continuing through next week. The current synoptic
pattern is dominated by a strong upper-level high-pressure system
over the western United States, which has been responsible for the
widespread heat. However, this high will weaken and be replaced by a
broad trough of low pressure moving along the US/Canada border. This
will bring a backdoor cold front through the area Saturday morning.
This change will bring a dramatic drop in temperatures and introduce
several rounds of precipitation. The exact timing and intensity of
the rainfall, as well as the precise location of the heaviest
precipitation, remain uncertain due to the nature of thunderstorm
development and the evolving atmospheric setup.
