997 FNUS28 KWNS 072201 FWDD38 Day 3-8 Fire Weather Outlook NWS Storm Prediction Center Norman OK 0459 PM CDT Tue Oct 07 2025 Valid 091200Z - 151200Z ...Days 3-4/Thursday-Friday... An upper-level low entering the Pacific Northwest later this week will promote increasing onshore flow across coastal WA/OR and northern CA, ushering in a cooler/more moist marine air mass. A northward surge of atmospheric moisture from hurricane Priscilla into the southwestern U.S. ahead of the upper-level trough will support showers and thunderstorms across portions of the Southwest and Colorado River Basin Thursday and Friday, mitigating fire weather concerns. South to southwest pre-frontal winds across northeastern CA/southern OR between are expected Thursday/Friday but alignment with sufficiently dry conditions and receptive fuels is unlikely. ...Days 5-6/Saturday-Sunday... A deepening surface trough across the central and northern High Plains as the upper-level trough across the western U.S. moves into the Northern Rockies will promote increasing southerly flow across the Plains over the weekend. A dry, continental air mass ushered into the eastern U.S. in the Day 2-3/Wednesday-Thursday period will scour out deeper moisture across the Southeast, limiting Gulf moisture return for portions of the southern Plains late this week. Fuels are becoming increasingly dry across portions of TX and OK as recent rainfall deficits and warm temperatures have aided in drying/curing fuels. Primarily dry conditions preceding the increase in southerly winds across the southern Plains will further prime fuels for increased wildfire spread potential. A 40% probability of critical fire weather conditions was introduced for portions of TX/OK for Day 5-6/Saturday-Sunday to cover this threat. ...Days 7-8/Monday-Tuesday... Troughing across the West is expected to persist, maintaining cooler temperatures, cloud cover and opportunities for rain and higher elevation snow across the Northwest, reducing fire weather concerns. Increasing Gulf moisture should mitigate fire weather threats early next week across the southern Plains within a continued south/southwest wind regime. ..Williams.. 10/07/2025 ...Please see www.spc.noaa.gov/fire for graphic product... $$
