Fire Weather Planning Forecast for Southeast Wyoming/Western Nebraska
National Weather Service CHEYENNE WY
322 PM MDT Fri Aug 8 2025

...RED FLAG WARNING FOR LOW RH, POOR RECOVERY, AND GUSTY WINDS
EXTENDED UNTIL 6PM SATURDAY FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 419 THROUGH
429...

.DISCUSSION...

While today remains breezy for the prolonged Red Flag Warning
areas along and west of the Laramie Range, a region of higher
moisture passing over the area today is keeping RH higher than
earlier this week. Still, with wind gusts to around 35 mph and
RH around 20%, and early cancellation does not seem prudent,
given dry air expected to return late this afternoon and evening.
Poor recoveries are expected once again tonight for the corridor
from Rawlins to Laramie and points southwestward as drier air
moves back into the area and dewpoints drop. Look for RH back to
between 8 and 15% along/west of the Laramie Range Saturday, which
may spill into adjacent High Plains too. Breezy west winds continue,
warranting an extension of the Red Flag Warning through 6PM Saturday.
Higher confidence for an end to critical fire weather conditions
arrives Sunday with increased moisture and lighter north/northeast
winds. Unfortunately, the reprieve will not be very long lived
with increasingly warm, dry, and breezy conditions returning Tuesday
onward.
