A relatively fast moving winter storm that will bring a
significant amount of sleet and freezing rain tonight.
Precipitation at onset is generally expected to be snow, with some
potential for freezing rain at onset. A period of sleet is
expected during the early morning hours before transitioning to
freezing rain early Thursday morning and continuing through a good
portion of the morning across eastern Pennsylvania. A transition
to rain is expected during the mid-morning hours across western
portions of the Commonwealth prior to sunrise, with rain expected
to become the dominant precipitation type across central by late
morning and eastern Pennsylvania during the early afternoon hours.

Ice accumulations overnight through Thursday morning are expected
to be highest across the Laurel Highlands and portions of south-
central Pennsylvania, where a quarter of an inch of ice
accumulations are expected. Elsewhere, ice accumulations are
generally expected to be less than two-tenths of an inch with
sleet accumulations up to an inch. The highest sleet accumulations
are expected across portions of northeastern Pennsylvania where
between one and two inches will be expected from this system.

Breezy southerly winds will are expected on Thursday, with the
highest winds expected to be across the Laurel Highlands during
the evening hours with wind gusts upwards of 30 mph. Winds shift
northwesterly on Friday and are expected to increase, with maximum
wind gusts during the early morning hours across the Laurel
Highlands topping out near 40 mph. Elsewhere, wind gusts on Friday
are expected to range between 20 and 30 mph.

Temperatures overnight into Thursday morning are expected to
range from the lower 20s across the northern tier to the mid-30s
along the Mason-Dixon line of southwestern Pennsylvania.
Considerably warmer conditions are expected on Thursday, with
maximum temperatures ranging from the mid-30s across the Poconos
to the mid-50s across southwestern Pennsylvania.
