DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1100 PM HST (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Karina was located near latitude 21.4 North, longitude 142.5 West. Karina is moving toward the northwest near 8 mph (13 km/h). A turn toward the west-northwest is forecast over the next day or two. Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional weakening is likely during the next few days, and Karina is forecast to become post tropical by Monday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 40 miles (65 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles (240 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 984 mb (29.06 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- None.
