Fire Danger Statement
National Weather Service Columbia SC
829 PM EDT Mon Mar 10 2025

In coordination with Horry County officials, the Forestry
Commission is lifting the State Foresters burning ban for Horry
County, effective at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

While burning for forestry, wildlife or agricultural purposes
(prescribed burning) will be allowed with the lifting of the ban,
Horry County Governments ban on open burning, which was issued
Feb. 27 by county officials, will remain in place until further
notice.

The Forestry Commission is lifting the ban due to several
factors, including recent rainfall received in the area, improving
weather conditions and because most of the wildfires in Horry
County that ignited on or after March 1 are now under control,
which will allow more resources to focus on containing the
Covington Drive Fire just outside Myrtle Beach. The fire remains
at 2,059 acres and is 60 percent contained.

A statewide ban was issued March 1 in the interest of public
safety during an intense outbreak of wildfires that included more
than 100 ignitions in a single day.

Citizens who plan to conduct prescribed burns must still notify
the Forestry Commission before doing so. Notification procedures
for conducting prescribed burns may be found on the SCFC website
at: https://www.scfc.gov/protection/fire-burning/
