...Heightened fire weather concerns today with strong northerly winds...
.DISCUSSION...
Dry weather expected today with brisk northerly flow and wind
gusts up to 30 mph this afternoon, especially in the Champlain
valley. Given further drying and longer term extreme drought
conditions, somewhat stronger peak wind gusts above 25 MPH this
afternoon will support fire weather concerns, especially where a
Special Weather Statement has been issued. Terrain-driven
convergence of low level north-northwest winds favor strongest
winds in the corridor from near Panton to Castleton, Vermont,
where frequent gusts will likely exceed 30 MPH. Northerly gusty
winds are expected again on Friday, but not as strong as today.
