The National Weather Service in Brownsville has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  West Central Cameron County in deep south Texas...
  Southern Hidalgo County in deep south Texas...

* Until 930 AM CDT.

* At 614 AM CDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing
  heavy rain across the warned area over the past 12 to 24 hours.
  Between 6 and 12 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall
  amounts up to 0.5 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash
  flooding is ongoing.

  HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms
           producing flash flooding.

  SOURCE...Radar.

  IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams,
           urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Edinburg, Mission, Pharr, Harlingen, Weslaco, San Juan, Alamo,
  Donna, Mercedes, Hidalgo, La Feria, Elsa, Progreso, Palmview,
  Edcouch, Santa Rosa, Palmhurst, La Villa, Palm Valley and North
  McAllen.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Turn around, don`t drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.

Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.

Stay away or be swept away. River banks and culverts can become
unstable and unsafe.
