Spot Forecast for Leyden Prescribed Fire...Masswildlife
National Weather Service Boston/Norton MA
140 PM EDT Tue Apr 22 2025

Forecast is based on ignition time of 1100 EDT on April 23.
If conditions become unrepresentative, contact the National
Weather Service.

.DISCUSSION...
A dry surface pressure trough passage will take place early
Wednesday morning. High pressure will then be establishing itself
over Southern New England and be the main governing driver of
weather conditions near the prescribed burn location in Leyden.
Full sunshine is expected with dry weather and an increasing
mixing depth as temperatures warm into the mid 60s. Lowest
relative humidities will be falling to around 25 to 30 percent.

Expect northwest winds around 10 mph near the Leyden spot
location through sundown, then beginning to weaken to around 5 mph
or less by Wednesday evening. Excellent smoke dispersal is
expected under good mixing during the afternoon hours, with
modest transport towards the southeast towards Eden Trail and the
far southwest portion of Bernardston. As temperatures cool off
Wednesday evening, expect reduced mixing to only a few hundred
feet of the ground as a temperature inversion develops overnight.
