VFR through the evening. Drainage winds will transition to a
northwesterly direction later this morning and persist through
most of the afternoon. At least a few gusty showers are forecast
this afternoon, though overall coverage will be sparse. Main
concern with these will be variable/gusty outflow winds during the
mid/late afternoon hours.
Winds should gradually turn to the north or northeast this
evening, with a gradual moistening trend still expected. Guidance
is in fairly good agreement developing a stratus deck between
08-11z tonight, with better odds at DEN compared to APA/BJC. At
least a brief period of MVFR to IFR ceilings is expected at all of
the terminals. Stratus should slowly rise and scatter out through
Wednesday morning.

KCOS and KPUB...VFR conditions the next 24 hours. Isolated to
scattered high based -shra or brief/weak -tsra possible
21z-02z, especially at KCOS, and will add a vcsh mention for
late afternoon/early evening. A period of gusty/erratic outflow
winds is likely at both terminals, with potential gusts in the
35-45 kt range. Winds will trend northerly this evening and
overnight behind a cold front, with periods of gusts to around
25 kts this evening and again 10z-18z Wed morning.
KALS...VFR conditions the next 24 hours. Isolated showers and
thunderstorms will be possible across the San Luis Valley in the
23-01z time period, producing mainly gusty outflow winds but
only light rain/sprinkles. Skies then clear overnight into Wed
morning.

ruled out. VFR conditions are expected to follow with the passage of
the storms.

Low clouds this morning across northern WY (KCOD, KWRL, and KCPR
terminals) continue to scatter out to start the period, lingering
perhaps until 19Z at KCOD. Then, the focus shifts to widespread
showers and thunderstorms by the later part of the afternoon. Given
the atmospheric stability that exists following the AM inversions
and low clouds, CAMs have been pushing timing of the initiation of
showers and thunderstorms to later in the afternoon (22Z to 00Z)
with the most likely chances occurring between 00Z and 03Z. Around
03Z a second round of showers moves through the region. Have
included -SHRA for this second round, as earlier convection should
stabilize things and limit TS after 03Z, but isolated embedded TS
are certainly possible.
Behind the showers and storms, a secondary cold front will move
through overnight, which looks to bring low cigs to all terminals
east of the Divide. MVFR to IFR cigs are likely (70% chance), with
LIFR cigs possible at KCOD and KWRL (40% chance). Low clouds look to
scatter out between 15Z to 17Z with KCOD, KCPR, and KWRL hanging
onto the low clouds longest.

VFR conditions expected to prevail initially, but incoming
showers and thunderstorms will first bring lowering CIGs and
localized reductions in visibilities, and then further lowered
decks will bring areas of IFR to LIFR to the region. Showers and
storms expected this afternoon and again potentially overnight.
This will bring CIGs between 5-10k feet. Tonight, lowered CIGs
move in, with all sites aside from KLAR/KRWL expected to see
heights between 500-1500 feet alongside some BR reducing
visibilities. CIGs should begin to lift after sunrise tomorrow,
though lowered CIGs may linger through the late morning hours.

Fairly active weather by this evening with trailing low-stratus
will hamper aviation operations for much of the forecast period.
Early this afternoon, a cool front will moving into the western
Sandhills. This frontal boundary will tighten this afternoon
leading to scattered to widespread rain and thunderstorm
development. Impacts are likely early at VTN though to what
magnitude remains somewhat uncertain. Storms may not mature
until they exit the airspace. Will cover greater impacts with a
PROB30 for now with gusty erratic winds and very heavy rain
possible. Further south and east, a mature complex of storms
will dive southeast through central Nebraska. This puts LBF on
the western extent of the greater storm coverage and thus
uncertainty with respect to magnitude of impacts. Believe this
is best covered with another PROB30 and potentially more
significant wind gusts as a result.
For both terminals, anticipating low-stratus to filter in from
the north behind the advancing cool front. This should be fairly
immediate behind thunderstorms at VTN but likely lag at LBF.
Regardless of timing, IFR conditions appear probable. Will omit
these lower CIGs at LBF for now until confidence increases on
more precise timing. This threat should persist much of the day
Wednesday and so have maintained prevailing conditions through
the end of the forecast period.

Southerly winds are forecast to continue through the afternoon
with some gusts of 20-30 mph possible; highest at KMCK. Continue
to monitor for some thunderstorm development this afternoon and
through the evening. For KGLD, a slim chance of storms
developing before 00Z but think any activity should remain to
the NW of the terminal. A little better signal from 01-04Z so
have included a PROB30 as a surface trough moves through, severe
weather is not expected for the terminal. KMCK does have a
better potential after 00Z with a concern for strong to perhaps
severe winds and IFR visibilities due to heavy rains so have
included a tempo for this as the forcing is better the further
north you go. An increasing signal for stratus overnight as
moisture moves in from the north; some patchy fog is also
possible for the KGLD terminal as well.

Impacts to aviation later this evening will be limited however
a plume of smoke from a New Mexico fire may be reducing
visibility in haze to the MVFR category (3-5 SM) for a while
from mid evening through the overnight. A surface cold front
approaching the area will be another area of surface mass
convergence where shallow fog could develop north of the
forecast area toward 10-13z, however at this time HREF
probabilities are only up to the 20% threshold for less than one
half mile visibility across the KS/NE line. The gusty southwest
winds ongoing will cease late evening (04-07z), and drop to
around 10 knots through the morning before mixing resumes around
10 am and gusts up to 20-23 kts return.
