Issued at 418 AM MST Fri Dec 5 2025
VFR conditions expected throughout the TAF period. Winds at DEN
and APA will vary between southeast and southwest this morning but
the speeds will be light. At BJC, there will be periodic westerly
gusts up to 30 knots possible but most of the time will be spent
with light and variable winds.
BJC will see sporadic westerly gusts throughout the day today
with the highest likelihood of westerly gusts in the afternoon.
DEN and APA may see either light northeast winds or west-
northwesterly winds with gusts up to 15 knots. The northeast winds
are more likely so the TAF was adjusted to include that.
Moderate to strong drainage flow will develop Friday night. Winds
will shift to the northwest on Saturday with strong gusts up to 40

Salt Lake City Aviation Discussion
Issued at 1110 UTC Friday, December 5, 2025
.AVIATION...KSLC...A second round of precipitation will move into
the area early this morning, resulting in a period of light-moderate
precipitation between ~14-19z (though intermittent showers may
continue through the afternoon). MVFR conditions will accompany this
round, with a 30% chance for periodic IFR conditions. Snow will
transition to rain in the early afternoon, and will remain rain as a
second round of heavier precipitation moves in Friday night. CIGs
are expected to remain below 5000ft through the TAF period.
REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Snowfall will continue across N-
UT/SW-WY this morning, resulting in periodic MVFR-IFR conditions.
Showers will become more scattered and showery in nature this
afternoon, with many valley sites transitioning to rain as snow
levels rise above 6000ft. Gusty westerly winds will develop mainly
across higher terrain and over SW-WY, with gusts increasing to
around 30kts at KEVW by Friday evening.

West of the Divide...KBPI/KJAC/KPNA/KRKS Terminals.
Snow will continue through at least 16Z at KJAC, with IFR
conditions. 20 to 40% chances continue to exist that KBPI and
KPNA will also see some snow showers through 15Z, with KPNA
being the more likely terminal to see those snow showers. MVFR
conditions would be expected if those snow showers occur. A wave
will also bring snow showers near KRKS through 15Z as well.
Occasional IFR conditions are possible as a result. Most models
are indicating a lull in snowfall between 15Z and 21Z, which
could bring KJAC up to VFR, however, given westerly flow and
orographics, expect KJAC to remain marginal MVFR conditions during
the lull. A much heavier period of snow is then expected
beginning around 23Z at KJAC which will last through the rest
of the period. Expect IFR to LIFR conditions through much of the
night as a result. This more potent push of snow looks to
impact KBPI and KPNA (70% chance) as well as KRKS (50% chance)
late in the period. It should also be noted that gusty winds
will also accompany the snow, with gusts 25 to 30kt after 06Z.
This could lead to blowing snow, especially at KRKS, where gusts
around 40kt will occur.
East of the Divide...KCOD/KCPR/KLND/KRIW/KWRL Terminals.
With the approaching weather system, wind will be the main concern
east of the Divide, with most terminals seeing winds staying
light (10kt or less) through the day. by the start of the
period. The exceptions will be KCPR which will have sustained
winds around 14kt. Midlevel cigs also will be expected
in the morning for most terminals. There is a slight chance of
seeing some snow showers out of those lower cigs, with most
likely chances at KWRL (30% chance) but KCPR (20% chance) and
KCOD (10% chance) may also see occasional snow showers. The mid-
level cigs should filter out by midday, with BKN-OVC FL050-100
clouds in place after 00Z. Winds will begin to increase after
00Z at KCOD and after 05Z elsewhere. Gusts of 25 to 30kt will
occur during these times for all terminals except KWRL.
Please see the Aviation Weather Center and/or CWSU ZDV and ZLC for
the latest information on smoke, icing, and turbulence forecasts.

Scattered snow showers and gusty winds are expected at southeast
Wyoming terminals during the day. Brief MVFR/IFR conditions will be
possible if a snow shower moves over a terminal. Visibility
reductions and low stratus are possible. Cannot rule out patchy
blowing snow, mainly around KRWL. Breezy conditions will be possible
at western Nebraska terminals during the afternoon.

The main aviation concerns today will be gusty northwest winds
to 25kts across north central into central Nebraska and MVFR
ceilings as low as OVC025 this afternoon in north central
Nebraska, including the KVTN terminal. Winds will diminish this
evening and become light southerly after 06Z Saturday.

Winds are veering towards the northwest currently. Still
forecasting breezy wind gusts of 20-30 knots developing late
morning and continuing through the afternoon with the strongest
at GLD. Guidance has been coming in a bit stronger on the winds
so confidence is fairly high in this occurring. Winds overnight
are then forecast to back back to the southwest overnight.
Watching for the potential for a few flurries or sprinkle
potential for each terminal this afternoon. Towards the latter
part of this period and into the next some rain/snow showers are
possible for each terminal. Will continue to monitor but this
may be the next potential for a reduction in flight categories.

Any remnant patches of 5SM BR will quickly erode by 14z with
daytime heating and dry advection. Otherwise, expect VFR
conditions to persist through the period. Winds will shift to
the northwest at 10 kts by 17z and then decrease by sunset with
the loss of daytime heating.

Generally VFR conditions for the next 24 hours at all terminals.
There is a low chance for freezing fog to develop this morning at
all terminals. However the chance of this occurring has fallen
such that it has been removed from the TAFs. The winds will take a
northerly shift following the passage of dry boundary later this
morning.

Areas of MVFR to IFR cigs and visibility have developed near the
northwest high terrain and in mountain valleys in the Sangre de
Cristo mountains. In addition, BR has developed in the Pecos River
Valley. Visibilities in these areas will likely deteriorate
through 15Z, then rapidly improve thereafter.
A light NW breeze will prevail in most areas today, with wind
gusts as high as 30 kts extending from the central highlands to
the eastern plains. LLWS is forecast to develop along the east
slopes of the Sangre de Cristo mountains and in the eastern plains
after sunset since winds aloft will continue to strengthen
through the night.
