VFR conditions expected through the TAF period. Winds are
currently from the east/southeast due to an outflow boundary from
thunderstorms over the eastern plains. There is some uncertainty
with how these winds will evolve in the near future, but most
guidance has light drainage flow returning. For now, have opted in
to follow guidance, but winds could remain from the east through
the early morning hours. Patchy areas of fog and the low stratus
deck have not materialized over the plains yet, so have taken the
lower clouds out of the TAF. However, if easterly winds remain at
the airport, there is a chance (<30% at this time) that low
stratus deck could form. Will continue to monitor.
Scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms are still expected
at all TAF sites this afternoon, with gusty outflow winds of 30-40
kts possible. Convection still looks on track to leave the
terminals by 01Z, however there could be nearby storms lingering
through 03Z. Behind convection, winds will likely be from the
southeast due to outflow boundaries, before drainage flow returns
to the terminals.

VFR conditions anticipated across much of the forecast area over the
next 24 hrs, including the three main TAF sites of KCOS, KPUB and
KALS. Convection will develop across the higher terrain by 18z
today, affecting TAF sites by mid-afternoon. Therefore, introduced
PROB30 wording for all three sites by 21z-23z and lasting through
03z for variable wind gusts to 30-35 kts and -TSRA. Hail may affect
KCOS and KPUB as well. Further east across the eastern plains,
strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible through the
afternoon and evening, with the main threats being damaging wind
gusts and hail 1-2 inches in diameter. Finally, some patchy fog may
affect KCOS and KPUB after 09z, but confidence was too low to
include in TAFs at this time.

KSLC...VFR conditions will persist for the KSLC terminal through the
period. Variable winds associated with nearby showers will continue
through ~12Z before conditions dry and a light southerly flow
returns. Isolated thunderstorms redevelop this afternoon, but there
is <30% chance of impacts to the terminal. Winds will primarily be
light and northerly during the afternoon.
REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...VFR conditions will persist for
the entire airspace through the period. A few showers across the
northern airspace continue to decrease in coverage. Isolated storms
develop this afternoon with <30% chance of impacting most terminals.
Winds will be light and diurnally driven aside from gusty and
erratic winds near storms that develop.

VFR flight conditions are forecast through 12Z Thursday. Showers and
thunderstorms will develop across the higher terrain of western and
central Wyoming after 19Z and move east through the afternoon.
Convection will be widely scattered today, so confidence in direct
impacts at terminals is rather low. That being said, KCOD, KRIW,
KRKS, KLND, KPNA, and KBPI have a 30 percent chance of seeing a
shower or thunderstorm between 20Z and 03Z, respectively. Showers
and thunderstorms at and around KJAC and KCPR are expected to remain
over the nearby mountains, with less than a 15 percent chance
of direct impacts. The primary hazards with any showers or
thunderstorms will be gusty 35 to 40kt winds and frequent lightning.
Outside of any thunderstorm activity, winds remain 10 kts or
less at most terminals. Breezy afternoon winds with gusts around
20kts are forecast at KCPR and KRKS.

Partly cloudy skies expected across much of southeast Wyoming and
western Nebraska this morning as showers and storms continue to move
off to the southeast. Light winds continue this morning before
increasing in late-morning hours for most terminals. Isolated to
scattered showers and thunderstorms move in the afternoon and
evening, some of which may be strong to severe. Gusty, erratic winds
are possible in and around every shower and thunderstorm that forms
this evening. The strongest storms may have 2+ inch hail and
damaging winds (50+ kts). Winds decrease with clearing skies late
this evening into the overnight hours.

The main aviation concern will be isolated showers and
thunderstorms across southwest Nebraska. Have included VCSH at
KLBF until 15Z, although a brief thunderstorm is also possible.
Otherwise winds will remain light today into tonight. Other
thunderstorms are possible by early evening west of the KLBF
terminal, mainly across the panhandle and far southwest
Nebraska.

VFR conditions are expected to prevail through most of the 12Z
TAF period at both terminals. Thunderstorms approaching the I-76
corridor in northeast CO at 0825 UTC this morning could
potentially affect both terminals an hour or two on either side
of sunrise (earlier at GLD, later at MCK), if said storms
persist for that long. A PROB30 group for thunderstorms has been
introduced to both TAF sites early this morning. Storms are
possible at either terminal late this afternoon into tonight,
though.. confidence in storm development and coverage is low
enough to preclude explicit mention with the 12Z TAF issuance.
Light SE, ESE or variable winds are expected throughout the TAF
period at both terminals. Gusty/erratic winds can be expected
with any storms, should storms be present in vicinity of either
terminal.

Overnight activity has seen CAMs both weaken and delay or chances
of showers and thunderstorms tonight with current trends not
seeing anything move into the area till around 03 UTC. Impacts
remain more likely at both KDHT and KGUY for the night with KAMA
not having enough confidence to have mention in the present
package. Once again the main threat from any storms is going to be
gusty and erratic surface winds with large hail and heavy
rainfall not fully ruled out just yet. Otherwise, all terminals
should continue to clear out through the morning and afternoon
hours with VFR conditions looking to hold through at least 00
UTC.

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will linger into the
late night hours on the far eastern plains, then diminish in the
pre-dawn hours. There will be an increase in storm coverage
areawide on Wednesday with scattered to isolated showers and
thunderstorms west of the central mountain chain, and scattered to
numerous coverage farther east. Storm motion will mostly be
toward the east and southeast around 10-25 KT with the fastest
speeds in the east. Some storms will turn severe along and east of
the central mountain chain by producing large hail and damaging
winds. High res models depict storms along and east of the central
mountain chain forming clusters and lines during the afternoon
that track southeastward and linger until mid-evening on the
plains south of I-40. In addition, record and near-record high
temperatures will return to southern, central, and western areas
on Wednesday, making density altitude an important consideration
for aviation operations near complex terrain.
