VFR conditions are expected to prevail for all terminals through
the TAF period.
Light drainage winds at the current hour will increasingly battle
against a Denver cyclone setup as the morning progresses. Models
are struggling to agree in its positioning, but for the most part
keep it hovering in the vicinity of KDEN through at least early to
mid-afternoon. As a result, there is a high uncertainty in
prevailing wind directions for most of the day, and an increased
likelihood of VRB directions, especially between 17-20Z (11am-2pm
MT). For now, will favor mostly SE flow with cyclone remaining
just north of KDEN.
After ~20Z (2pm MT), ISO-SCT high-based -SHRA/-TSRA will develop
in the area, and may impact Denver area terminals through
approximately 01Z this evening, creating the potential for brief
outflow gusts. There`s a possibility of more organized convection
developing in the eastern plains in the evening. If this occurs,
easterly outflow winds with gusts 20-30 kts can`t be ruled out,
especially for KDEN/KAPA.
Lastly, an approaching warm front Sun AM will lead to increased
potential for lower CIGS 010-015 starting near 10Z (4am MT) Sun.
Bases should remain high enough to limit vis restrictions at the
terminals.

VFR conditions are expected at KCOS, KPUB, and KALS for the next 24
hours. Plan on increasing mid-high level cloud cover by midday into
the evening. Gusty west and southwest winds are likely over KALS
today, with gusts to 25kt expected between 18z and 01z. Winds will
be out of the east-southeast at both KCOS and KPUB tomorrow,
beginning early in the morning hours. Gusts to 25kt will be likely
at KCOS between 17z and 02z, with gusts to 30kt possible at KPUB
between 20z and 04z. Isolated thunderstorms will be possible across
the eastern plains starting by 20z and lasting through 04z, but
affect on KCOS and KPUB questionable so did not mention.

locally near and downwind of Greer (in eastern Arizona) and Blind
fire (southeast of KLFG). Winds generally light and variable
through 16Z, then increase becoming southwest at 15-20 kts gusting
to 30-35 kts. Saturday night will see local southwest winds at
10-20 kts gusting to 30 kts downwind of terrain features. After
06Z, ceilings lowering to 030-060 from KGCN-KPGA northwest with
scattered showers developing.
OUTLOOK...Sunday 18/12Z through Tuesday 20/12Z...VFR conditions
prevailing, though smoke could reduce visibility near and downwind
of wildfires. Isolated to scattered -SHRA and a slight chance of
-TSRA through Monday afternoon mainly north of I-40. Winds on
Sunday southwest at 10-25 kts with gusts to 30-35 kts, strongest
from KINW-KSOW-KSJN. West-northwest winds 15-25 kts with gusts

.AVIATION....KSLC...Latest high-resolution model guidance
indicates isolated showers through 14Z which have a low-end
potential of causing occasionally variable winds. Otherwise, high
confidence in south winds through 20Z, gusty at times in the
20-30kt range in the early afternoon. From 20-24Z, gusty and
erratic winds possible in/near showers and isolated thunderstorms.
Wind shift to the W-NW is expected between 23-00Z with the
arrival of a cold front, with gusts 20-25kt post-frontal through
the evening. Increasing coverage of showers and a few
thunderstorms after 00Z, with persistent rain and isolated thunder
likely for the much of the remainder of Saturday night into
Sunday morning. Medium (~50% chance) for MVFR CIGs after 09Z
Sunday, with ~20% chance of IFR CIGs during this time. High
confidence in mountain obscuration beginning around 03Z.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Increasing shower/thunderstorm
coverage expected today from west to east, arriving across NW
Utah this afternoon, overspreading the Wasatch Front 00Z-03Z,
before expanding across western Utah 03-06Z, and finally central
Utah 06- 12Z. Gusty S winds anticipated Saturday afternoon ahead
of an eastward-expanding cold front that will overspread Utah and
SW Wyoming coincident with the above-mentioend arrival times of
the main precipitation shield. Isolated strong thunderstorms,
especially across northern Utah Saturday afternoon with
gusty/erratic wind threat. In advance of the front and precip
shield, gusty S-SW winds this afternoon into the early evening,
especially southern Utah. Along/behind the front, high confidence
in mountain obscuration, with medium (50%) chances for MVFR CIGs.
20-30% chance for IFR CIGs Saturday night-Sunday morning, with the
exception of extreme southern and southeast Utah where these
probs will be much lower.

VFR conditions with mostly scattered cloud decks are expected
through the rest of the morning. Focus then returns to convection as
showers and thunderstorms become widespread this afternoon as the
leading shortwave from an approaching trough pushes into Wyoming.
This activity will move from southwest to northeast through the
afternoon, with the main aviation concern of gusty winds to around
40 kts. Brief heavy rainfall is also possible with the
strongest cells, which could bring short periods of MVFR
conditions to terminals. While shower and thunderstorm coverage
will generally decrease late this evening, the arriving trough
will bring more persistent precipitation chances to western
Wyoming (KJAC) near the end of the period.

VFR will likely continue through the forecast period for
southeast Wyo and western Neb terminals, although there are a
couple aviation weather hazards. The first deals with gusty
south/southeast winds during the afternoon and evening with
speeds approaching 25 kts at times. The second concerns
scattered shower and thunderstorm activity, mainly during the
early and mid evening hours. Gusty erratic winds are anticipated
invof any shower, while brief ceiling drops to around 5kft are
possible. Gusty southeast winds may continue through the
overnight hours tonight in the Neb panhandle.

For KGLD & KMCK... VFR conditions are expected at both sites
through the period. Mostly clear skies are forecast over the
area with prevailing dry air. Winds are forecast to generally be
below 10 kts tonight. Winds are then forecast to pick up closer
to 15 kts tomorrow late in the morning and then subside again
closer to 00Z while becoming more easterly/southeasterly. There
is a chance for fog tomorrow night (Sat night), but it is
currently forecast to occur after 06Z.

Winds will increase after 14Z for GCK, LBL, and DDC to sustained
15-20 kts and gusts to 25-30 kts between 14Z Saturday through
00Z Sunday. VFR flight category for most of the time period
however towards 09-12Z with strong moisture advection ahead of a
warm front we are expecting an area of low stratus clouds and
potentially fog for GCK, DDC, and HYS which will drop the
ceilings to MVFR to IFR flight category as ceilings drop to
400-1000 ft.

hours. Winds out of the south at KAMA in the 5-10kt range
increasing to 10-15kts around 22z. Light and variable winds at
KDHT through about 19z with more southerly winds in the 10-15kt
range with gusts up to 25kts. And lastly KGUY will be
northeasterly, coming around to the southeast by 21z. Overall
winds 8-12kts at KGUY

VFR conditions are expected to continue to prevail through the TAF
period. Breezy southwest winds will prevail around the region
today, with the strongest wind gusts (25 to 35KT) along and east
of the central mountain chain. There is a low chance (10-20%) that
BLDU associated with gusty southwest winds creates MVFR
visibility reductions at KROW this afternoon, but vis restrictions
are unlikely elsewhere. A few gusty virga showers may develop in
central and east-central NM this afternoon, with localized strong
winds the main concern. Winds will decrease at most terminals
after sunset with the loss of daytime heating.
