Winds have gone light south and may become light SW by 13z. A cold
front willl move across later this morning with northeast winds
developing behind it. Currently it`s over sern WY and wrn NE so it
may reach the area by 16z based on current trends. For this aftn
winds will be ENE with tstms developing by 21z. These storms
should exit the area by 00Z. Could see brief wind gusts up to 50
mph along with some hail and visibility restriction in the 3-5sm
range. Ceilings may drop down to 5000 ft as well. By 00Z should
see storms move east of the area with winds becoming SE. Winds
transition to drainage by 05z.

Cold front pushing south across the eastern CO plains today will
shift surface winds to a E-NE direction through the afternoon and
into the evening with frontal passage. Brief MVFR conditions due to
lowering clouds and convective showers bewteen the 19z-00z time
window will primarily affect KCOS and KPUB.
Otherwise, VFR conditions are anticipated for much of the forecast
area including the three main TAF sites of KCOS, KPUB and KALS over
the next 24 hours.

.AVIATION...KSLC...Light northwesterly winds in place still have
the potential of periodically switching to the south, namely
between 10-13z, but speeds are expected to remain 5kts or less.
Northwesterly winds are expected to increase above 7kts between
18-20z and remain in place for the remainder of the afternoon.
VFR conditions will prevail, with any cumulus development
remaining well removed to the east/south/west during the peak
heating hours today.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...VFR conditions will prevail
across the airspace outside of areas downstream of large wildfires
in the south. For those isolated areas (e.g. BCE) overnight
stability will again allow for smoke to drive localized IFR
conditions. High pressure continues to dominate the area with weak
gradients allowing terrain-driven and thermally-driven flows to
dominate, with a slight increase in afternoon cumulus buildups
over the higher terrain today in comparison to Saturday (mostly
east of I-15).

VFR conditions will prevail at terminals through the period.
Convection will be much more limited today, with the best chances at
KCPR. Gusty outflow winds are possible with this activity. There is
a lower chance of showers or storms near KRKS as convection builds
off of the Uinta Mountains. While direct terminal impacts are
unlikely, there will be potential for outflow winds approaching KRKS
after 23Z. Convection will end after sunset leaving mostly clear
skies through Monday morning. Several terminals will continue to see
a breeze overnight as a cold front pushes south.

A back door cold front will increase moisture and bring a brief
period of lower CIGs to KCDR and possibly KAIA Sunday morning
mainly between about 12Z and 16Z. MVFR is most likely, but IFR
cannot be ruled out.
Attention will shift back to storms by midday Sunday with
northeast to east winds setting up over most of the High Plains.
PROB30 groups have been introduced for gusty winds and VIS
reductions in moderate thunderstorm rainfall for all terminals
Sunday afternoon into the early evening. Lastly, upslope flow
will push moisture against the Laramie Range late Sunday night,
which may bring IFR CIGs into KCYS and/or KSNY by Monday
morning.

A cold front is currently moving through the area, bringing with
it a quick change of winds from the north, gusting up to 25-30
kts. After about 30-45 minutes, winds behind the front will
start calming down to about 10-15 kts, although some gusts up to
20 kts can be expected. Winds will become northeasterly by late
morning. We are looking at storms moving through the region
today, likely (70+%) hitting KGLD, and probably (50+%) hitting
KMCK. See the above discussions for more information on the
hazards. Lingering storms and showers overnight are possible,
but they would likely be scattered and placement of this
lingering convection is impossible to pinpoint at this time, but
this convection may last until sunrise.

Wind speeds this afternoon will average less than 10 knots,
with a variable wind direction. This variability is attributed
to multiple weakening surface boundaries across southwest
Kansas, remnants of overnight and early morning convection.
Despite this variability, the prevailing wind direction based on
the latest short term models will be south southeast. There is
a slight chance (<20%) for thunderstorms between 21Z today and
03z Monday however given this low probability...no mention of
thunderstorms will be included in the 18Z TAFs. The better
chance for thunderstorms will accompany a cold front as it
crosses southwest Kansas between 03Z and 09Z Monday.
Thunderstorms tonight will be capable of producing strong gusty
winds and locally heavy rainfall. Once these storms and the cold
front pass, a gusty northwest wind will develop. Based on BUFR
soundings the cloud bases today and tonight will range from 3500
to 9000 feet AGL.

VFR conditions persist at all terminals through the morning hours.
Then come this afternoon, evening, and into the overnight hours
rain showers and thunderstorms form in the panhandles. This is
becoming more likely to be a line that moves NW to SE across the
panhandles during this time. There is a low to moderate chance
that these will impact the terminals during this time. The storms
can produce heavy rainfall causing IFR or worse conditions during
their passage. There is a very low chance that the storms will
become strong producing strong gusty outflow winds. Outside of
these storms conditions remain VFR with weakly gusty southerly
winds. Following the passage of this in the northern panhandles
winds switch to weakly northerly.

Hot temperatures today will create high density altitude readings
that will suggest poor aircraft performance for some. New cumulus
clouds will build over the mountains in the early afternoon,
especially over the central mountain chain of New Mexico, and this
will lead to scattered showers and thunderstorms that will
generally drift slowly southeastward through the late afternoon,
impacting the northeast to east central plains through the early
evening. Storms will be capable of hail, gusty downburst winds,
and brief heavy downpours that will temporarily lower
ceilings/visibility. Gusty east canyon winds will also spill into
the central Rio Grande valley (including at KABQ) this evening.
Most of the storm activity will come to an end or exit New Mexico
before midnight tonight.
