Still have some light shower and isolated thunderstorm across
northwest Colorado and southwest Colorado/southeast Utah with
midlevel ceilings and a few gusts to 25 kts. Look for these
storms to continue to diminish over the next few hours. Showers
will develop over the higher terrain after 15Z with
thunderstorm becoming dominant after 18Z. Convection will work
down into the valleys through the afternoon, and begins to
diminish after 00Z becoming more stratified showers after 03Z,
much like this evening. The main threats with convection will
be lightning, gusty outflows (30-40kts), and brief periods of
MVFR in heavy rainfall.

Salt Lake City Aviation Discussion

.AVIATION...
KSLC...Southeasterly winds will prevail overnight, transitioning to
northwesterly after ~17-18z. Showers and thunderstorms will begin to
develop over adjacent higher terrain after 19z, with low confidence
as to whether or not these storms move over the terminal during the
afternoon. Storms will be capable of producing gusty and erratic
outflow winds, moderate-heavy rain, and a low chance of a brief VIS
reduction.
REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Showers have largely diminished
across the area, except for a weak line across far western Utah.
Otherwise, conditions will be quiet overnight with overall light and
terrain-driven winds. Similar to today, scattered showers and
thunderstorms will develop after 18z, first across higher terrain
then spreading to adjacent valleys. Storms will be capable of
producing gusty and erratic outflow winds, moderate-heavy rain, and
brief VIS reductions.

Scattered rain showers will continue through about 18/0900Z,
with variable breezy winds based on where showers are tracking
in the vicinity of area terminals.
Skies partially clear during the early morning hours. By
18/1800Z, scattered showers and storms will again begin forming
over the high terrain, and will slowly drift northeastward into
basins, possibly (30% chance) affecting terminals across
western and central Wyoming. Heavy rain reducing visibility and
lightning will be the main threats with storm Saturday. Expect
variable gusts up to 35 kt with any storms that do form near
airports. Storm and shower activity taper off after sunset.

VFR conditions at all terminals tonight. A stationary front in
the northern Nebraska Panhandle is drifting south. Little to no
cloud cover is associated with this feature, however a wind
shift at KCDR from the northeast is anticipated shortly.
Elsewhere winds are generally light and variable. During the day
diurnal heating will increase winds and gusts at all terminals.
KRWL has a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the
evening. The main risks are lightning and brief reduction in
visibility. Some shower activity may occur near KAIA from the
previously mentioned stationary front in the evening. Cloud
debris from nearby convection will increase cloud coverage, but
no ceiling concerns are anticipated.

Although storms have mostly subsided, high res models depict
isolated showers and thunderstorms redeveloping during the late
night hours over northwest areas, in the central valley around
Albuquerque, and potentially over south central and southeast
areas. On Saturday afternoon and evening, scattered to numerous
showers and thunderstorms will return along and west of the
central mountain chain with scattered to isolated activity farther
east. A few of the stronger cells will be capable of producing wet
microbursts with localized, brief, and erratic wind gusts
potentially over 45 KT. Storm motion will mostly be toward the
southwest or west at speeds from 5-20 KT. Some cells over
southwest areas will move more slowly and erratically.
