Stratus has been persistent due to continued low level moisture
advection and mid level cloud deck on top. There are more breaks
now showing up in surface observations, so we think a dissipation
or lift to SCT stratucu deck is expected through 19Z. Main chance
for thunderstorms is delayed slightly due to a stronger cap in
place thanks to the morning stratus. At this point, the highest
risk of thunderstorms still exists to the south and southeast,
roughly KAPA and points S/SE, but still a PROB30 warranted for
KDEN as storms will still be possible. Any stronger storms will be
capable of producing heavy rainfall and brief visibility
restrictions.
For tonight, we expect most of the storm threat to be over by
02Z-03Z, and then VFR conditions for awhile. However, another
surge is expected to arrive late tonight 09Z-12Z (slightly ahead
of average model guidance) which is expected to bring in more
stratus and MVFR ceilings (~70% confidence) through much of
Wednesday morning. Storm chances increase Wednesday afternoon
again as the airmass destabilizes.

For KCOS..A cold front is currently backing across the plains, which
is expected to keep northerly winds over KCOS through the rest of
today. Showers and thunderstorms are likely this afternoon, mainly
from around 20Z through 24Z. MVFR visibility with heavier
precipitation will be possible through this period as well. VFR
conditions are expected after around 03Z, with mid and upper-level
cloud decks sticking around through the period. Low clouds will be
possible north of the station overnight, but are not expected to
persist over KCOS given the north winds. This will need to be
closely monitored, especially if southeasterly wind develop early.
For KPUB and KALS..A slight (30%) chance for thunderstorms is
expected this afternoon, mainly between 21Z and 01Z. Gusty and
erratic thunderstorm outflow winds with gusts to 35kt will be
possible with storms today, even if storms do not manage to move
within the vicinity. VFR conditions are expected after 01Z.

Scattered to broken cloud cover will pool along the Continental
Divide and on the terrain to the west today. Showers and
thunderstorms will form on the terrain as well. Included TEMPO
TSRA at mountain terminals this afternoon. Brief ceiling
reductions and gusty outflow winds will pose challenges to
aviators today. Showers will decay around sunset. Some leftover
cloud cover will hang around the mountains overnight, but VFR
conditions will prevail into the end of this TAF period. Winds
will be generally light southwesterly with a few afternoon
gusts on terrain. Outflow winds are expected to be erratic
around showers and gust 35 to 45 mph.

.AVIATION...KSLC...Southeasterly winds will continue through the
morning, increasing with gusts to around 20kts after 17z. There is
low confidence once again in wind direction later in the afternoon;
winds could shift northwesterly as early as 21z, or not at all.
Currently, the most likely timing is a wind shift around 23z. VFR
conditions will prevail.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Conditions will remain largely
similar to yesterday across much of the area, with breezy
southwesterly winds during the afternoon and elevated smoke
producing hazy skies across much of central/eastern Utah. MVFR-IFR
VIS/CIGs will once again be possible in close proximity to local
wildfires. Areas north of I-70 and east of Utah`s spine of mountains
may see isolated to scattered showers/thunderstorms develop after
20z. Any storms will be capable of producing gusty and erratic
outflow winds up to 40kts.

Lingering MVFR ceilings at KCPR should scatter out in the next
hour or so as daytime heating erodes the low-level clouds.
Otherwise, VFR conditions are generally expected at all TAF
sites for the forecast period. However, strong to severe storms
are possible this afternoon and evening along and east of the
divide, and MVFR conditions are quite likely under these storms.
Additionally, with the high level of boundary layer moisture
after the storms overnight, patchy fog and/or low stratus is
possible especially at KCOD/KWRL/KCPR into Wednesday morning.
Have included some SCT decks to reflect the possibility. As
mentioned, strong storms are expected this afternoon and
evening, with gusty wind and small hail accompanying brief heavy
rain. From north-central WY into central WY around KCPR though
conditions could be worse in the early evening with larger hail
and wind gusts of 50+ kts. Showers could linger east of the
divide through 30/06Z. West of the divide, isolated
thunderstorms are possible at the 4 TAF sites in the afternoon,
bringing gusty wind and small hail with brief heavy rain. Low-
level northerly and easterly flow will reinforce again overnight
east of the divide, then push into western (KJAC) and southwest
WY for a few hours of moderate surface winds before becoming
more variable around sunrise.
A similar pattern will develop again on Wednesday with the
moisture boundary hung up along the divide. Storms Wednesday
afternoon though should be more across the Wind River Basin and
southern Bighorn Basin into Natrona County, with less of a
chance across southwest WY.

Complex forecast across the region this morning as fog and low
stratus overtake much of the Panhandle and portions of southeast
Wyoming. Low stratus is expected to stick around through the
mid-morning hours, potentially into the afternoon hours as well,
especially at KCYS. Exact erosion time of the low cloud deck is
low confidence, as local knowledge suggests clouds sticking
around and weather forecasting models show them exiting the
region quickly as the sun rises. This afternoon, showers and
storms become the primary aviation hazard, though lower
ceilings will stick around. Ceilings this afternoon will be VFR,
but only around 5,000ft. Low clouds and fog are expected to
develop again tonight as a similar atmospheric pattern remains
in place. IFR conditions are likely overnight tonight.

expected again.

For KGLD & KMCK... VFR conditions are initially forecast for the
first few hours of the period with generally sunny skies.
Starting around 21Z, but more likely between 23-02Z, storms are
forecast to develop across the area and intermittently impact
the terminals. These storms may be severe with wind gusts of
50-55 kts. Hail ranging from 0.25-1.25" may also occur.
Multiple round of storms are possible, so continue to use
caution once a storm passes. Storms activity should lower/end
around 03Z, but has a low chance of occurrence through 07Z with
showers being more likely. Around this time, expect low level
winds to become more from the north as a surface low pushes
south. The other condition of interest is low cloud ceilings,
forecast to develop between 08-12Z. KMCK is likely to see lower
ceilings as a whole and before KGLD, but both site should lower
to around 1000ft. Once ceilings lower, they likely won`t lift
until closer to 15-17Z. In short, storms this afternoon/evening,
low ceilings tomorrow morning.

VFR conditions are expected to be the dominant flight conditions
through the period. Around 6Z, a front is expected to pass through
SW Kansas. This will shift winds considerably and is put in the TAF
due to the uncertainty of the strength and duration of the shift.
Additionally, behind the front thunderstorm development is expected.
The eastward extent is also holds uncertainty, but the current
forecast is that storms will stay west of all terminals. HYS has
VCSH for dissolving storms/showers moving near the terminal through
the overnight.
