.AVIATION /12Z TAFS through 12Z Saturday/...
Issued at 523 AM MDT Fri Jul 25 2025
VFR conditions will prevail for all terminals through the TAF
period.
For winds, southerly drainage flow early this morning will
gradually rotate more westerly after sunrise before settling with
predominantly NE winds closer to midday. SE prevailing wind
direction will be favored beginning mid-afternoon, but will likely
be outflow-driven at times. Potential for convection at the
terminals will be reduced compared to prior days, just 20-30%,
but with slightly greater opportunity for gusty outflows ~02-22Z
for the Denver area, will retain the PROB30 for now to cover the
potential for convection-induced winds up to 35 kts. Expect a
return to typical drainage winds in the evening.
Finally, there will likely be a modest increase in smoke aloft by
the afternoon. It`s tough to really gauge the extent or impact of
it, but slight reductions in slantwise visibility can`t be
entirely ruled out at times.

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SATURDAY/...
Issued at 538 AM MDT Fri Jul 25 2025
A few high clouds are moving in from the southwest in addition
to smoke from the Dragon Bravo Fire over northern Arizona. Smoke
could potentially result in reduced visibilities through much of
the morning across KCNY, KGJT and KRIL with MVFR conditions at
times. Otherwise, VFR will prevail with mostly clear skies for
much of the area. Breezy conditions arrive this afternoon at
times but gusts should stay below 25 kts for the most part. Some
isolated storms are possible over the San Juans and along the
divide but impacts to TAF sites remain a low probability of
occurrence, so did not mention in the TAF. Light, terrain driven
winds return overnight.

Salt Lake City Aviation Discussion
Issued at 0842 UTC Friday, July 25, 2025

.AVIATION...SLC...VFR conditions to persist through the period.
Pulse of vertically-integrated smoke from northern Arizona
wildfires expected to drift across the area after 06Z tonight and
persist through mid-Saturday morning, providing a hazy sky and
perhaps somewhat degraded slant range visibility. Southeast
drainage flow expected to transition to NW lake breeze between
20Z-22Z, and back to southeasterly drainage flow between 03Z-04Z
this evening.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Expect occasional mid-high
cloudiness through the period. The column has sufficiently dried
to prevent any shower/thunderstorm activity through the weekend.
Wildfire smoke will continue to be transported into eastern Utah
in particular through the weekend, with significant smoke
concentrations at times (especially late afternoon through the
evening) across SE Utah, with the greatest impacts to VIS and CIG
in the Lake Powell vicinity, with category reductions down to MVFR
and locally IFR.

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SATURDAY/...
Issued at 520 AM MDT Fri Jul 25 2025
VFR conditions are expected to prevail through the period. Drier and
warmer conditions have taken over today, and convection will
accordingly be much more limited. KCOD is the only terminal where
confidence is high enough to include a PROB30 group this afternoon.
Otherwise, most terminals will see a breezy west or southwest wind
with few to scattered cloud decks. Any showers in the area will end
by sunset, with lighter wind expected through Saturday morning.
Please see the Aviation Weather Center and/or CWSU ZDV and ZLC for
the latest information on smoke, icing, and turbulence
forecasts.

Dissipating thunderstorms to the west of the terminals are not
expected to bring any impacts to either LBF or VTN.
Main concern going forward is threat for fog/low stratus. Fog
continues to fluctuate across central Nebraska and LBF has noted
modest visibility decreases. Believe patchy valley fog cannot be
ruled out at LBF but magnitudes are likely to only fall to MVFR
criteria. Did remove low stratus from VTN but will need to
monitor trends going forward. Expect diurnal cumulus at LBF but
only passing high clouds otherwise with dry conditions through
the valid forecast period.

Low clouds and fog will result in IFR to VLIFR flight categories
at both KGLD and KMCK through about 15-16z before lifting.
Thereafter, VFR expected to prevail at both terminals through

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z SATURDAY/...
Issued at 504 AM CDT Fri Jul 25 2025
Surface observations at 10z showed that low ceilings have spread
into southwest Kansas earlier than short term models predicted.
Despite this, the forecast ceilings height (500ft or less) still
looks on track. BUFR soundings and short term models both are in
agreement that these ceilings will persist until 15Z today,
coinciding with thunderstorms in the area. VFR conditions are
expected to develop between 18Z and 21Z, with Dodge City and
Hays being the last locations to see VFR development. East winds
under 10 knots will shift to the south southeast during the
afternoon. The thunderstorms today will produce localized heavy
rainfall, leading to occasional low visibilities (1-2 miles).

VFR conditions will prevail at all TAF sites over the next 24
hours. Showers and storms for the most part have exited but there
are a few isolated storms that remain, but are not expected to
impact the TAF sites. That being said, brief amendments may be
needed if these small morning shower/storms drift over any TAF
sites. Otherwise, light and variable winds with few to scattered
mid clouds today.

Drier air will continue to move into NM today. Showers and
thunderstorms are still expected along and east of the Central
Mountain Chain, though coverage and intensity will decrease from

off the high terrain around 5-10kt. Brief heavy rainfall and gusty
outflow winds will be possible. Much of the activity will
diminish around sunset or shortly thereafter.
