Normal drainage winds can be expected at DIA by 06Z. Satellite
pictures are showing significant smoke upstream moving towards the
CWA in weak northwesterly flow aloft. Some of the models show
decent smoke coverage over the forecast area overnight and on
Thursday. There should not be any ceiling issues.

VFR conditions anticipated across the forecast area over the next 24
hours, including the three main TAF sites of KCOS, KPUB and KALS.
Gusty northerly winds across the far eastern plains, and just in
general northerly flow for terminals will ease and become more E-SE
this evening, finally becoming light and diurnal for all areas by
09z. E-SE surface winds and mid/high level cloudiness will be on the
increase by 20z tomorrow as another cold front approaches.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms will linger across the
southern mountains and foothills through sunset before coming to
an end. Low probability at KDRO and KTEX but otherwise, TAF
sites not expected to be impacted with VFR conditions. Mid and
high level clouds will increase across the area from the
southwest this evening and overnight resulting in SCT to BKN for
much of the day Thursday. Afternoon coverage of storms will
increase but favor higher terrain across the south, spreading
northward towards evening. KTEX and KDRO again stand the best
chance to see potential impacts from storms with gusty winds and
brief heavy rain possible, so included PROB30 groups to account
for this. Otherwise, VFR can be expected with breezy conditions
Thursday afternoon.

Isolated showers and thunderstorms will linger across the
southern mountains and foothills through sunset before coming to
an end. Low probability at KDRO and KTEX but otherwise, TAF
sites not expected to be impacted with VFR conditions. Mid and
high level clouds will increase across the area from the
southwest this evening and overnight resulting in SCT to BKN for
much of the day Thursday. Afternoon coverage of storms will
increase but favor higher terrain across the south, spreading
northward towards evening. KTEX and KDRO again stand the best
chance to see potential impacts from storms with gusty winds and
brief heavy rain possible, so included PROB30 groups to account
for this. Otherwise, VFR can be expected with breezy conditions
Thursday afternoon.

VFR flight conditions prevail at all terminals this TAF period with
northwest flow aloft. Expect breezy winds to decrease below 09kts
by, at the latest, 06Z tonight and remain light overnight. A dry
cold front treks into northern Wyoming Thursday morning, reaching
KCOD around 15Z, before continuing south through the day and
impacting all other terminals. Gusty winds are anticipated at all
terminals with the passage of the front. East of the Divide
terminals can expect wind gusts between 20-30kts and west of the
Divide terminals can expect 18-25kt gusts. Areas of smoke from
western wildfires will also accompany the front, especially across
northern Wyoming, but impacts to surface visibility should remain
minimal.

Wildfire smoke will continue to lead to low-end VFR visibilities
across northern Nebraska this evening and tonight. Additional
smoke may impact western and southwest Nebraska terminals
tomorrow afternoon.
By tonight, low stratus will expand across southwest Nebraska
and into the Sandhills, with MVFR/IFR CIGs expected. Patchy fog
development is also possible early tomorrow morning. A gradual
improvement back to VFR is expected for all area terminals by
early tomorrow afternoon.
Winds become light and variable tonight, generally 5kts or less.
Northwest winds then strengthen tomorrow afternoon, with
widespread gusts of 25 to 35kts along and north of I-80.

Post-frontal upslope flow will veer from northeast to southeast
overnight, resulting in moisture pooling within the lowest 1500
ft AGL across western Kansas and southwestern Nebraska. This
setup appears favorable for IFR ceilings to develop at KGLD
around 08-09z and persist through 14z. The timeline is a bit
later for KMCK, but the scenario is very similar. VFR conditions
will return as winds veer to the southwest and west through the
morning hours, resulting in a push of drier air.

Gusty north winds 15 to 20 knots can be expected for the next
few hours across portions of southwest Kansas as a cold front
moves towards the Oklahoma border early this evening. Isolated
to widely scattered thunderstorms will be possible near this
boundary, but any chance of storms in Dodge City and Liberal
areas has ended. Once the cold front passes the skies will
clear and the gusty north winds will gradually shift to the
east and decrease to 10 knots or less after midnight. As
easterly upslope winds of 10 knots or less develop...an area of
stratus below 1000 ft AGL will begin to develop across southwest
Kansas, mainly west of Highway 183. Areas of fog will also be
possible along with these IFR ceilings between 9Z and 15Z
Thursday.

VFR conditions are expected to prevail through this TAF period.
Some localized showers could produce localized erratic winds over
the next hour or two in the combined Panhandles. These showers are
not anticipated to impact the terminals as they are very localized
with the probability being 10 percent or less for impacting any
one terminal. Otherwise, light winds are expected around 5 kts
with maybe a north-easterly component through 12Z. After that,
winds should transition to be predominately southerly and pick up
to around 10 kts in the latter half of the period.

Showers and limited thunderstorms across central NM will produce
more in the way of gusty and erratic winds rather than wetting
precipitation through the evening hours. Shower activity will
taper off after sunset. Lingering mid and high level clouds across
western and southern NM overnight into tomorrow morning. High
level clouds increase from south to north during the day Thursday.
Clearer skies along and north of I-40 will allow for some
scattered shower and thunderstorm development across mainly the
higher terrain of western and northern NM moving east into nearby
lower elevations during the rest of the afternoon into the
evening hours. Included PROB30s for KGUP, KABQ, KAEG, KSAF, and
KLVS mainly for the potential of gusty and erratic winds from
nearby showers and storms.
