VFR conditions will persist but the main issue will be smoke and
reduced arrival rates due to IMC during daylight hours. It appear
the smoke plume will stay largely unchanged from yesterday, so
we`ll mention FU in the TAFs (surface vis should stay above 6SM
but slant range visibility will be affected). We do expect some
convective cloud buildups 18Z-03Z, but the main threat of any
passing showers or storms would stay confined to the high country
and Palmer Divide, and chances less than 20% for the TAF sites.

At KCOS, IFR/occasional LIFR in stratus and fog overnight as light s-se
surface winds persist. Light n-nw drainage wind after 12z will start to
improve conditions, with improvement back to VFR around 16z. VFR then
expected during the day into Sat evening, and with the bulk of afternoon
convection staying back over the higher terrain, wont include any
-shra/-tsra mention at this point.
KPUB will see cigs in the MVFR/occasional IFR range overnight, with some
MVFR vis in fog possible as well. Cigs break 15z-16z, with VFR conditions
through the afternoon and evening. Convection looks to stay back over the
higher terrain at this point, and wont include and -shra/-tsra mention
for now.
KALS IFR conditions in stratus and fog through the night, with clearing
in the 15z-16z timeframe as winds begin to increase slightly. VFR through
the afternoon and into the evening, though will include a vcts mention after
21z as convection moves off the higher terrain into the San Luis Valley.

Expect light winds overnight with a few isolated showers across
the region as a mid to high cloud deck moves in from the west.
Convective activity picks up in the Four Corners area after 15Z
spreading to the northeast by 18Z with scattered to widespread
thunderstorms generally along and south of the I-70 corridor
through 00Z. Showers and thunderstorms will diminish through the
evening with only isolated showers lingering across central and
northern Colorado by 06Z.

.AVIATION...KSLC...VFR conditions are likely to prevail at the
terminal through valid TAF the period. Winds remain generally light
and diurnally driven, with northwesterly winds transitioning
southeasterly after 03z. Rain showers are expected to develop over
the general area Saturday morning into the early afternoon,
potentially as early as 14z, but the most likely timeframe for
showers and thunderstorms look to be 16-20z.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...VFR conditions expected
through the period for all regional terminals. Showers and
thunderstorms are expected to continue through this afternoon over
and near the higher terrain, drifting more into the eastern Utah
valleys and southwest Utah heading into this evening before
weakening. Storms that develop will be capable of producing locally
heavy rain and erratic winds, with potential to push CIGS into
MVFR/IFR levels under heavier cores through this evening. Some
nocturnal showers developing over the West Desert of Utah may bring
showers into Saturday morning for southern/central Wasatch Front
terminals.

The main weather element through the period will be smoke. To start
the period, smoke is over a majority of the area, though is notably
less at KCOD and KWRL. Visibilities should generally range from 6 to
10 miles, though KJAC may prevail lower (4 to 8 miles). A shortwave
begins to push in from the southwest Saturday evening. This feature
brings shower and thunderstorm chances to western sites (KBPI, KJAC,
KPNA, KRKS) starting around 23z. There are indications of
showers/storms developing over the mountains west of KBPI and around
KJAC starting around 20z, but have put PROB30 groups in the TAFs for
the more likely onset times. This shortwave also pushes the smoke
towards the northeast, with lessening smoke for southwestern Wyoming
sites (KBPI, KPNA, KRKS) and increasing smoke across northern and
eastern sites (KCPR, KCOD, KWRL).

A corridor of stratus remains to the south of the GLD terminal.
Am anticipating this to remain south of the terminal but there
is 30-40% chance that some of the stratus does try to advect
towards the terminal which is what is prompting the tempo. Due
to the lack of saturation depth not anticipating fog to be an
issue but could see some reductions especially towards the
11-13Z time frame where visibilities fall into the 6sm-9sm
range. Winds are then forecast to back and become more from the
SSE. As for KMCK no current concerns for stratus or fog.
Southwest winds are forecast to become more southeasterly mid
morning. For GLD, just after this TAF period am starting to see
some hints of another round of stratus or fog which may impact
the terminal.

VFR conditions will prevail today with low clouds dissipating
around the LBL terminal in the next few hours. Mid clouds may
hang around the LBL terminal throughout the morning hours. Winds
will be light and from the southwest this morning, shifting to
a southerly direction with a slight increase in speed by this
afternoon.

A large shield of low clouds has settled across the panhandles
producing IFR to VLIFR conditions at all terminals. There is a
moderate chance that this cloud bank will fully settle to the
surface becoming a dense layer of fog. Conditions will slowly
improve during the daytime hours as the low level cloud bank lifts
and slowly breaks up. How long this cloud bank takes to break up
will be key for tonight. If it takes to long then it will thicken
and settle again across all terminals tonight with renewed IFR or
worse conditions. If it manages to break out then conditions may
become VFR for at least a small window.

Scattered to isolated showers and thunderstorms will progress
toward the east and southeast this evening, continue over the
south central mountains, east central plains, and southeast plains
after midnight, then linger along NM`s eastern border into the
early morning hours Saturday. In addition, widespread MVFR and
IFR conditions mainly in low clouds, but also with areas of fog,
are expected east of the central mountain chain tonight until late
morning or early afternoon on Saturday. Another round of
scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms will progress
eastward across the forecast area Saturday afternoon and evening.
A few of the stronger cells this evening, and again on Saturday,
will be capable of producing wet microbursts with localized,
brief, and erratic wind gusts up to 45 KT.
