VFR conditions expected through the TAF period. Much drier air has
moved in behind this afternoon`s showers. Winds have returned to
light and variable where they are expected to remain before
turning to a persistent southerly component for the overnight
hours (between 2-3Z). A cold front is expected to slide south
across the TAF sites tomorrow morning. Expecting winds to
become gusty (20-25 kt gusts) and shift to a northerly component
as it passes. Models are typically a little slow with cold front
timing, but expecting the northerly winds to begin at KDEN between
13-15Z before pushing south into KAPA between 15-16Z. Winds at
KBJC will be a little trickier to nail down, as cross-sections
show between 35-45 kts of cross-barrier flow creating mountain
wave enhancement ahead of the cold front late tonight/early
tomorrow morning. Hi-res guidance shows winds make a turn to the
southeast as the mountain wave first develops at KBJC (around 7Z).
If the southeast turn doesn`t play out, winds are expected to
gradually turn more westerly through the early morning gusting to
25 kts as winds make their way down the eastern slopes of the
Front Range.

Upper trough of low pressure swinging across the Rocky Mt region
continues to bring abundant moisture to the higher terrain, and
brisk W-SW winds across much of the state. Generally VFR
conditions anticipated across much of the forecast area over
the next 24 hrs, including the three main TAF sites of KCOS,
KPUB and KALS, though specifics outlined below. Surface cold
front will be approaching KCOS and the far eastern plains by the
end of the forecast period.
KCOS - South winds gusting to near 30 kts at times through 03z, then
becoming W-NW through the night generally less than 10 kts.
Mentioned WS from 12-15z for W winds to 35 kt just off the deck.
Increasing NW winds tomorrow afternoon ahead of approaching cold
front.
KPUB - Surface winds generally under 10 kts through the night,
becoming W and gusting to near 25 kt by 22z tomorrow.
KALS - Will have the best chance of continued -SHRA through 12z with
intermittent MVFR cigs and vsby. South winds around 15 kts with
occasional gusts to 25 kts, becoming SW by midday tomorrow.

Steady rainfall is coming to an end from west to east. More
scattered showers and storms are expected until the frontal
passage overnight. Under and near any of the heavier showers
and storms IFR to LIFR can be expected due to low ceilings and
visibilities. ILS breakpoints will also likely be met thanks to
those same low ceilings. Mountain obscurations will occur across
the region. Fog and low stratus is possible tomorrow morning.

.AVIATION...KSLC...Gusty southerly winds precede a cold front
passage this afternoon, in addition to some isolated showers that
have a 30% chance to impact the terminal. Winds will transition
northwesterly behind the frontal boundary, with gusts 30-35 kts. A
band of heavy rain with embedded thunderstorms is also expected to
accompany the front, resulting in MVFR to brief IFR conditions due
to reductions in CIGS/VIS through around 02z. Expect winds and
precipitation to gradually wane after 02z through the remainder of
the TAF period.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Scattered thunderstorms will
continue to develop this afternoon and push east this evening.
Expect a line of rain and thunderstorms to develop along a cold
front around 23-01Z this afternoon extending from northern terminals
down to southern terminals. This line of rain and storms will
push east of all terminals by 05-06Z, lingering the longest at
KCDC and KSGU. As these rain showers and storms impact terminals
this afternoon and evening MVFR CIGS and down to IFR VIS is
possible at times. Strong to severe storms remain possible as
well. Conditions should slowly improve behind the cold front
overnight.
Ahead of the cold front wind will be breezy from the southwest,
especially at KCDC and KSGU. Behind the front wind will become
northwesterly this evening, but will quickly become light overnight
after 06Z.

VFR conditions to start the period for most TAF sites and MVFR at
KJAC. Rain/storm chances continue to spread across much of the
area, becoming straight rain with the approaching cold front
mainly between 05-10Z, and a bit earlier for KJAC. Have added a
PROB30 with -SHSN at KJAC early Sunday morning. As the front
pushes east it will bring chances for rain showers and storms to
all terminal east of the Divide, especially at KCOD. Only rain
expected at KWRL with little if any instability after 00Z and
doesn`t make its way to KCPR until 07Z.
The cold front continues to progress south and east with increasing
winds out of the south ahead of it, strongest at KCPR/KRKS up
to 35kts with up to 20-25kts at all other locations. Wind will
shift more westerly overnight, tonight. Skies will improve
through the end of the period with mid-level ceilings expected
before clearing into the overnight for the next TAF cycle into
Monday morning.

Lingering showers should quickly dissipate at CDR and AIA over
the next two hours generally coming to a close after 2z. Expect
partly to mostly cloudy skies to continue over most other
terminals over the next 6 hours. Isolated showers will approach
RWL after around 7z with a chance of -RA for a few hours
overnight, but the chance is less than 30% and not enough to
include major vis or cig reductions. Drying will move in by
sunrise with increasing wind speeds out of the west northwest at
all terminals on Sunday.

across western and north central Nebraska. Winds remain gusty
from the south this evening, with gusts of 30kts expected.
Winds remain gusty from the south overnight for terminals east
of HWY 83. Rain showers across the western Sandhills will move
northeast and affect the KVTN terminal until 06Z.
Tomorrow morning, a cold front will push through the area and
lead to a wind shift to the northwest. Northwest winds then
strengthen late morning and afternoon, with gusts of 25 to
35kts expected again.

upper level cloud cover (ceilings at-or-above ~12,000 ft AGL)
this afternoon and evening will give way to a clearing trend
overnight. SSW winds at 25-35 knots will decrease to 20-25 knots
within a few hours after sunset.. further decreasing to ~15
knots and veering to the SW overnight. Winds will abruptly shift
to the NNW-N and increase to 20-30 knots in association with a
cold frontal passage late Sunday morning (~16-18Z). After the
frontal passage, breezy N winds will persist through the
remainder of the 00Z TAF period.
MCK: VFR conditions will rule through the TAF period. Mid-
upper level cloud cover (ceilings at-or-above ~12,000 ft AGL)
this afternoon and evening will give way to a clearing trend
early Sunday morning. S winds at 25-35 knots will decrease to
20-30 knots within a few hours after sunset, further decreasing
to 10-20 knots and veering to the SW overnight. The presence of
a ~50 knot southerly low-level jet this evening will foster a
period of LLWS at the McCook terminal -- most likely in the
~04-09Z time frame (after surface winds weaken and before the
low-level jet shifts eastward into central NE-KS). Light SW to
WSW surface winds will abruptly shift to the NNW-N and increase
to 20-30 knots in association with a cold frontal passage late
Sunday morning (~16-18Z). After the frontal passage, breezy N
winds will persist through the remainder of the 00Z TAF period.

Southerly surface winds at around 20 knots at 23z today will
decrease some after sunset this evening but continue in the
15-20 knot range across western Kansas overnight. A low level
jet with speeds of 45 to 50 knots will also develop, increasing
the likelihood of wind shear. By 12z Sunday this jet shifts
east as a surface trough moves into western Kansas, followed by
a cold front in the afternoon. As the front crosses southwest
Kansas the surface winds will shift from south southwest at near
20 knots to north northeast. There is also the potential that
once this cold front passes a few wind gusts could exceed 30
knots behind the front. Precipitation chances are low with the
frontal passage but there will be increasing cloud ceilings
between 5000 and 10000ft AGL.

Increased subtropical moisture is keeping showers going over
portions of northern and central New Mexico. While much of the
activity will tend to favor southwestern to south central New
Mexico later this evening, another band of showers is modeled to
develop in the early morning hours Sunday across west central to
central areas of the state, including KGUP, KAEG, KABQ, and KSAF.
This will spread lower MVFR ceilings into more of western and
central New Mexico before and through the post dawn hours Sunday
with periods of reduced visibility in light to moderate rain.
Showers will tend to dwindle through the late morning, refocusing
farther south into Sunday afternoon, including near KROW, KSRR,
and KONM.
