Although areas of low Stratus (OVC005) have recently developed
over areas of northeast Colorado, DIA remains under the influence
weak drainage winds. So perhaps the low ceilings will stay away.
If the wind shifts to a weak west/northwesterly direction, the
Stratus will likely move right on in. The latest hi-res models
keep the low ceilings out of the big airport for this morning.
Will leave the PROB30 in for late day convection along with
VRB20G38KT from the outflows.

Satellite imagery showing some low clouds spreading across
eastern El Paso County early this morning, so included a TEMPO
for IFR cigs for KCOS from 13z-15z. Otherwise, VFR conditions
anticipated for much of the forecast area over the next 24 hrs,
including the three main TAF sites of KCOS, KPUB and KALS.
Another round of afternoon showers and thunderstorms can be
expected over and near the higher terrain, however with drier
air filtering into the region, storms that can develop near the
terminals will be higher based, with gusty outflow winds up to
40kts the main threat. The best chances of storms/outflow
affecting the terminals will be at COS and PUB from 20Z-01Z, and
will maintain PROB30 in the TAFS at this time. Also mentioned
VCSH for KALS from 20z-02z.

.AVIATION...KSLC...Generally light southeasterly winds continue this
morning before winds pick up out of the northwest between 17-18z.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across far
northwest Utah this afternoon. While storms are unlikely to move
over the KSLC terminal, outflow winds originating from these cells
are expected to produce a period of gusty northwesterly winds to 30
kts at the terminal between 00-03z.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...Winds remain generally light
and terrain driven this morning, with typical breezes developing
this afternoon. Some stronger gusts to 20-25 kts are possible this
afternoon for southern Utah terminals. Showers and thunderstorms are
expected to develop across far northwest Utah this afternoon, which
will be capable of producing gusty and erratic outflow winds at all
northern Utah and southwest Wyoming terminals through the evening
hours. Otherwise, dry conditions prevail across the remainder of the
airspace.

VFR conditions should prevail through 18Z Saturday. The afternoon
will be another day of scattered afternoon showers and
thunderstorms, mainly from 20Z Saturday through 02Z Sunday. The best
chance of a shower or storm looks be in vicinity of KCOD, but just
about all terminals will have at least a 1 in 5 chance of an
afternoon thunderstorm or shower. As a result, we have gone with
PROB30 groups for almost all terminals since individual showers and
storms remain hard to pinpoint. The smallest chance will be in
vicinity of KJAC, with around a 1 in 5 chance of a shower and less
than a 1 in 7 chance of a thunderstorm. Here we have opted for a
VCSH group. With drier air at the surface, the main threat from any
thunderstorm would be wind gusts past 40 mph. Any thunderstorm or
even shower could produce wind gusts past 40 mph this afternoon.
Most convection should end after sunset tonight with largely VFR
conditions prevailing from 04Z to 12Z Sunday.

Mostly clear skies continue across southeast Wyoming and western
Nebraska. Some low stratus have begun encroaching on KSNY as of 11Z.
These low clouds look to continue for the next 1 to 3 hours for this
terminal. There is a slight chance for patchy fog at all terminals
east of the Laramie Range. Confidence is low on this fog developing,
but included 2 hour TEMPO groups for patchy fog this morning, ending
at 14Z. As the afternoon progresses on, another round of strong to
severe storms are expected. Gusty, erratic winds and large hail will
be possible in and around any of the storms that develop this
afternoon. Expecting a northerly wind shift at most terminals,
though timing on this shift varies.

Low stratus, while remaining localized this morning, should fill
in across the area over the next hour or so. This should lead to
prolonged MVFR conditions at both terminals through late
morning before conditions potentially improve. Visibility
restrictions owing to lingering HZ/FU remain likely and should
persist through midday before conditions improve.
Attention then turns to the threat for rain and thunderstorms
tonight arriving from the west. Believe any impacts to either
terminal would hold off until the evening but confidence in
either terminal seeing direct impacts is fairly low. Have
omitted mention at VTN and only covered with a PROB30 for LBF.
Short-term guidance remains fairly inconsistent in placement of
activity across southwest Nebraska and will cite this as the

Scattered stratus is developing across the area currently with a
more solid patch directly over the GLD terminal. Visibility is
down to around 6SM which I`m believing is a combo of radiational
fog and lingering smoke which got trapped near the surface as
the inversion set in; KDOT webcams suggest more of a localized
fog so will opt to use a combo of the two. Better confidence in
smoke being present at MCK due to the lack of cloud cover on
satellite and near surface smoke guidance suggesting this; webcams
however do also show perhaps some spotty fog across Red Willow
county so will opt to go with smoke for the first few hours of
the TAF period since that should be most prevalent. Visibility
should remain MVFR but a brief period of IFR is possible as what
is going on at KCSB located to the east of the terminal in western
Furnas county. Stratus and smoke should mix out no later than 15Z
leading to VFR conditions. Watching another round of strong to
severe storms moving towards the GLD terminal after 00Z Sunday
with that threat ending around 05-06Z. Seeing an increasing trend
for thundershowers near MCK overnight Saturday, severe weather is
not anticipated. Will maintain a PROB30 for each for this TAF
issuance as mesoscale factors should increase or decrease
confidence throughout the day.

Wildfire smoke continues to impact all terminals, bringing MVFR
visibilities to DDC and GCK. Latest near-surface smoke density
forecast from the HRRR shows little to no improvement this TAF
cycle, suggesting MVFR vis will be common through 12Z Sunday.
Otherwise, current light south/southeast winds will strengthen
modestly into the 10-15 kt range this afternoon before weakening
to aob 10 kts after sunset.

IFR and MVFR conditions expected for the next couple to three
hours as low clouds impact KAMA and KGUY. KDHT should stay with
VFR conditions. Southerly winds up to 12 to 15 kts expected during
this period. After 00Z Sunday, chances for thunderstorms increase
across the combined Panhandles. All three terminals have 30 to 60
percent chances of seeing thunderstorms during the overnight
hours, 00Z to 12Z Sunday. Some of these storms may be strong to
severe and potentially have heavy rain reducing conditions down
to LIFR.

Another round of showers and storms will develop this afternoon
across the high terrain, but coverage will be lower compared to
the past several days. More outflow dominate activity should be
favored, thus expected gusty/erratic winds. There will be a risk
for strong to severe storms across northeast and east central NM
with hail and strong winds being the main threats as storms over
the high terrain migrate into the high plains. Activity should
diminish by 03Z in central/southwest NM, and between 03Z-06Z in
the ern plains. All TAF sites excluding KTCC, and possibly KLVS,
have less than a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms, thus PROB30
was used sparingly as a result.
