Showers and storms are already forming over the higher terrain
today but they will initially struggle to move onto the plains due
to a strong inversion. By the mid afternoon, strong storms will
push across the Denver metro with hail and strong wind gusts
possible. All terminals will likely be impacted and gusts could
reach 50 knots. Once the storms pass through, winds will become
easterly for the evening.
Overnight tonight, there will be light drainage flow. By 08-11Z, a
push of northerly winds are expected to bring in a stratus deck
with ceilings around 1,000-2,000 feet. There is a 30% chance that
only a scattered layer develops instead of a broken layer. This
broken stratus layer will likely dissipate between 16-18Z tomorrow
morning.
Given the cool temperatures and stable conditions tomorrow, DEN
and BJC are expected to be dry and not be impacted by storms. APA
may receive an outflow boundary from storms over the southern
foothills.

Cold front pushing south across the eastern CO plains today will
shift surface winds to a E-NE direction through the afternoon and
into the evening with frontal passage. Brief MVFR conditions due to
lowering clouds and convective showers bewteen the 19z-00z time
window will primarily affect KCOS and KPUB.
Otherwise, VFR conditions are anticipated for much of the forecast
area including the three main TAF sites of KCOS, KPUB and KALS over
the next 24 hours.

.AVIATION...KSLC...Light northwesterly winds in place still have
the potential of periodically switching to the south, namely
between 10-13z, but speeds are expected to remain 5kts or less.
Northwesterly winds are expected to increase above 7kts between
18-20z and remain in place for the remainder of the afternoon.
VFR conditions will prevail, with any cumulus development
remaining well removed to the east/south/west during the peak
heating hours today.
.REST OF UTAH AND SOUTHWEST WYOMING...VFR conditions will prevail
across the airspace outside of areas downstream of large wildfires
in the south. For those isolated areas (e.g. BCE) overnight
stability will again allow for smoke to drive localized IFR
conditions. High pressure continues to dominate the area with weak
gradients allowing terrain-driven and thermally-driven flows to
dominate, with a slight increase in afternoon cumulus buildups
over the higher terrain today in comparison to Saturday (mostly
east of I-15).

VFR conditions will prevail at terminals through the period.
Convection will be much more limited today, with the best chances at
KCPR. Gusty outflow winds are possible with this activity. There is
a lower chance of showers or storms near KRKS as convection builds
off of the Uinta Mountains. While direct terminal impacts are
unlikely, there will be potential for outflow winds approaching KRKS
after 23Z. Convection will end after sunset leaving mostly clear
skies through Monday morning. Several terminals will continue to see
a breeze overnight as a cold front pushes south.

VFR conditions will be prevalent over the next 24 hours, with a
handful of exceptions. First, showers and thunderstorms are
expected to develop this afternoon and impact all sites through
this evening, and any storms could produce locally heavy
rainfall and reduce visibilities for brief periods, alongside
gusty and erratic winds. Storms could even be strong to severe
from KCYS through the Nebraska terminals, with very strong winds
and hail possible. Then, cloud bases will remain generally mid
level at around 3-6k feet, but later tonight a lowered cloud
deck could bring reduced CIGs below 1-2k feet for KCYS and KSNY.
Otherwise expect clouds decks outside of this to lift, becoming
mid to high level and clearing into tomorrow. Winds will be
breezy through this afternoon, around 10-20 knots with gusts
20-30 knots possible outside of the aforementioned storms,
weakening into tomorrow morning.

Showers and thunderstorms will develop across the Panhandle and
spread southeastward tonight. Strong winds and hail will be the main
threats with these storms. Visibility restrictions down to 4 miles
could also be possible in some of the stronger storms due to heavy
rainfall. Storms exit the area by sunrise Monday with VFR conditions
returning for the remainder of the TAF period.

VFR to IFR conditions forecast for the TAFs. VFR conditions
expected until the storm activity moves in from the west after
0z. As the storms move through conditions will degrade to MVFR
and possibly IFR. Moderate to heavy rainfall should be the
reason for IFR conditions due to restriction in visibility.
Along the leading edge of the storm activity will be wind gusts
from the west. These gusts should surpass 50 kts. However will
keep the gust at 50 kts due to lack of confidence the peak gust
will not be more than a few minutes in duration. KMCK should
also see storm activity, but later in the evening. The greater
impact there will be LLWS around 9z with another round of storm
activity moving through from the northwest.

Wind speeds this afternoon will average less than 10 knots,
with a variable wind direction. This variability is attributed
to multiple weakening surface boundaries across southwest
Kansas, remnants of overnight and early morning convection.
Despite this variability, the prevailing wind direction based on
the latest short term models will be south southeast. There is
a slight chance (<20%) for thunderstorms between 21Z today and
03z Monday however given this low probability...no mention of
thunderstorms will be included in the 18Z TAFs. The better
chance for thunderstorms will accompany a cold front as it
crosses southwest Kansas between 03Z and 09Z Monday.
Thunderstorms tonight will be capable of producing strong gusty
winds and locally heavy rainfall. Once these storms and the cold
front pass, a gusty northwest wind will develop. Based on BUFR
soundings the cloud bases today and tonight will range from 3500
to 9000 feet AGL.

VFR conditions are expected throughout most of the TAF period.
There is a low chance for some MVFR/IFR cigs Monday moring mainly
near KAMA with the passage of a cold front. Winds will also shift
from southerly to northerly behind the front at 10 to 15 knots.
Otherwise, prob30 groups were included at all sites for potential
thunderstorm activity this evening into the overnight hours.
Confidence in coverage of storms not high enough to include
prevailing yet, but KDHT and KGUY have the best chance of seeing
impacts. Strong outflow winds and heavy rain will be the main
concern with any storms.

Hot temperatures today will create high density altitude readings
that will suggest poor aircraft performance for some. New cumulus
clouds will build over the mountains in the early afternoon,
especially over the central mountain chain of New Mexico, and this
will lead to scattered showers and thunderstorms that will
generally drift slowly southeastward through the late afternoon,
impacting the northeast to east central plains through the early
evening. Storms will be capable of hail, gusty downburst winds,
and brief heavy downpours that will temporarily lower
ceilings/visibility. Gusty east canyon winds will also spill into
the central Rio Grande valley (including at KABQ) this evening.
Most of the storm activity will come to an end or exit New Mexico
before midnight tonight.
