THURSDAY EVENING FOR EASTERN ELBERT AND LINCOLN COUNTIES, FIRE
WEATHER ZONES 246 AND 247...
.DISCUSSION...Today and tonight...Warm and dry conditions will
continue today, leading to elevated fire weather conditions across
the plains and Palmer Divide. Winds will generally remain light
today. Good to very good smoke dispersal is forecast this
afternoon across the forecast area. Improved RH recovery is
forecast overnight tonight, though lows will still remain above
normal.
LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Thursday through Sunday...Winds will
increase on Thursday as a low pressure system moves into the
region. With another day of warm and dry conditions expected, this
will lead to the development of critical fire weather conditions
across portions of the plains. A Fire Weather Watch is in effect
for eastern Elbert County and Lincoln County from 11AM to 8PM
Thursday due to relative humidities dropping into the low teens
with coincident wind gusts reaching 35 mph. Elevated to critical
fire weather conditions are also expected in portions of
Washington, Sedgwick and Phillips Counties. Winds will increase
further on Friday, but snow and rain is expected across the
forecast area that will keep elevated relative humidities
throughout the day. Warm and dry conditions will return on Sunday
that will drop relative humidities back into the teens, and
elevated fire weather conditions will be possible across the
plains and southwest Douglas County.
