.DISCUSSION...Tonight through Tuesday night...
The high country and foothills will see strengthening winds
overnight into Tuesday morning, remaining very strong through
late Tuesday evening. Gusts 60-80 mph will be widespread above
7,000 ft, with wind-prone locations expected to gust to 90 mph
or briefly higher. At times, narrow corridors of strong winds
will likely extend east into wind-prone adjacent lower elevations
such as the Highway 93 corridor, although such strong winds won`t
be as widespread for lower elevations, where most areas will see
gusts in the 30-50 mph range. Elevated fire weather conditions will
be in place Tuesday afternoon for those plains locations where snow
cover is absent and fuels are susceptible. Meanwhile, the northern
mountains will see occasional light snow showers, with any
accumulations being minor. Expect highly favorable smoke dispersal
conditions much of the day.
LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Wednesday through Saturday...
Strong winds are likely Wednesday night into Thursday, with gusts
up to 70 mph across the high country, and up to 50 mph in the
wind-prone areas along and adjacent to the foothills. Aside from
scattered snow showers in the northern mountains on Wednesday and
Thursday morning, the forecast area should remain dry through the
weekend. Expect temperatures to generally be above normal, with
Thursday seeing temperatures up to 10-20 degrees above normal
across the plains. Smoke dispersal conditions should be Good to
Very Good across the Front Range and parts of the plains Wednesday
through Friday.
