.DISCUSSION...Today and tonight...
Isolated to widely scattered higher based showers and storms
will be possible over the higher terrain mainly along and south
of I-70. Across the plains it will be hot and dry.
Southeast winds will gust to around 25 mph across the plains for
the afternoon and early evening, but minimum humidity will remain
above 15% where the stronger winds occur. Humidity readings in
the mountain valleys will drop under 15% but winds will be lighter.
LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Tuesday through Friday...
A prolonged period of hot weather will persist through Friday. As
the heat and stress on vegetation builds, we`ll see increasing
risk of fire growth and potentially long burn periods well into
the evening hours each day. That`s despite staying just below Red
Flag conditions each day (the wind component will be lacking
slightly in the mountains, while the humidity component will be
slightly above thresholds over the breezier plains east of I-25).
It should be noted that Thursday could be closer to Red Flag
conditions as winds may increase somewhat. Record or near record
heat will occur across all of the mountains and mountain valleys,
with high temperatures potentially reaching all time record highs
most afternoons through Thursday. The chance of any storms looks
quite slim through this period (and no chance of any wetting
rain). It appears the next chance of any wetting rainfall will
hold off until next weekend at the earliest.
