.DISCUSSION...Today through Saturday...
Upper-level ridging will shift east and over the region on
Saturday. This will bring a resurgence of well above normal
temperatures and dry conditions across the forecast area. Winds
will generally be light and subsidence is expected under the
ridge, leading to only patchy areas of fair to good smoke
dispersal conditions along the foothills and far eastern plains in
the afternoon. Relative humidity values are expected to remain
above critical thresholds, but will begin a drying trend (dropping
to ~18-22%) along the southern foothills and adjacent plains in
the afternoon.
LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Sunday through Tuesday...
Downslope winds will develop late Saturday night for the Front
Range mountains, strengthening through Sunday morning with some
eastward extent into the lower foothills and potentially adjacent
lower elevations near or after sunrise. Critical fire weather
conditions appear increasingly likely for at least some portions
of the lower foothills from Boulder County southward, as well as
wind-favored areas west of I-25 and across the Palmer Divide, where
humidity may fall into the 12 to 18% range. These conditions may
extend into South Park as well, however humidity levels will be more
marginal and confidence is therefore lower.
Breezy conditions will extend into Monday, with with moderating
humidity and temperature values. The mountains will see another
round of accumulating snow Monday into Tuesday, favoring the
northern ranges. A cooler and wetter pattern is signaled beginning
during the middle of the week.
Smoke dispersal conditions will generally be favorable for most
areas during this period.
