.DISCUSSION...Tonight and Wednesday...
Strong winds will continue for the east-facing mountain slopes and
foothills through this evening, with a gradual weakening in wind
speeds and a steady retreat towards the higher terrain for the
strongest gusts. Light snow showers will develop late evening over
the northern mountains and continue through Wednesday, with mostly
1 to 5 inches of accumulation expected above 10,000 ft, focused
over the Park Range and Medicine Bow Range. Any snow accumulations
will be much lighter (a dusting to 2 inches) closer to the I-70
mountain corridor. Gusty winds will persist across the higher terrain
through Wednesday, with gusts 45 to 70 mph. Smoke dispersal conditions
will remain favorable for most areas during the afternoon.
LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Wednesday night through Sunday...
Gusty winds will likely continue through Wednesday night and
gradually decrease during the day Thursday. Brief and localized
wind gusts up to 70-80 mph are possible, particularly overnight
Wednesday. Gusts up to 45 mph are possible in the wind-prone
areas along and adjacent to the foothills. Thursday and through
the weekend, the forecast area should remain dry, with generally
above normal temperatures. Thursday will be particularly warm
across the plains, with temperatures in the mid-to-high 60s. Smoke
dispersal conditions should be Good to Very Good across the Front
Range and parts of the plains Thursday through Saturday, and Poor
across the forecast area on Sunday.
