.DISCUSSION...Tonight and Thursday...
Winds along the high country will strengthen this afternoon and
continue through Thursday morning. Aside from brief lulls
overnight, expect wind speeds of 55-70 mph, gusting up to 80 mph
at times. Across the wind-prone areas along the foothills and
adjacent plains, winds should gust up to 50 mph. Thursday will be
breezy across the forecast area, with west/northwesterly wind
gusts up to 45 mph in the plains and up to 60 mph at ridgetops. It
will be particularly warm on Thursday, with temperatures in the
mid-to-high 60s. Relative humidity values will be marginal (>20%),
so only expect brief elevated fire weather conditions. Smoke
dispersal conditions will range from Good to Very Good in the
afternoon.
LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Thursday night through Monday...
Windy conditions will continue to improve Thursday night into Friday
morning. Above normal temperatures and dry conditions are expected
through the forecast period that will bring localized elevated fire
weather conditions, as RH values are forecast to gradually drop into
the teens across the plains by Sunday and into Monday. There will be
patchy Fair to Good smoke dispersal conditions in the higher
foothills and mountain locations Friday and Saturday afternoons,
with generally widespread Poor conditions expected Sunday and
Monday.
