.DISCUSSION...Tonight and Thursday...Snow ends this evening
throughout the area with skies clearing after midnight. For
Thursday, increasing northwest flow aloft will bring gusty west to
northwest winds to the mountains, mountain valleys, and higher
foothills. Gusts to 40 mph will be possible at the typical windy
locations, while most areas will see gusts of 20 to 25 mph
Thursday afternoon. Smoke dispersal in these areas will reach fair
to good. Where winds are weaker and the inversion stays in place,
smoke dispersal will be poor.
LONG TERM DISCUSSION...Thursday night through Monday...
Another round of accumulating mountain snow is expected late
Thursday night through the weekend. Snow will be heavy at times,
especially for the northern mountains where totals approaching two
feet are possible in the Park Range. Late Friday night into
Saturday afternoon will see the heaviest snowfall, with only very
light precipitation possible (15-20% chance) for the lower
elevations. The lower elevations are expected to see warmer and
drier conditions by Monday, with afternoon highs reaching the
upper 40s/low 50s, and minimum relative humidity values gradually
decreasing through the forecast period (but still expected to
remain above critical thresholds). There will be periods of
enhanced winds that will help smoke dispersal conditions reach at
least Fair to Good in the foothills and northern plains each
afternoon.
