Weekend Outlook... && .PREV DISCUSSION... SHORT TERM...Today through Saturday night...Today and Friday, an upper level ridge over the southwestern US will shift to the north. This will bring hotter temperatures, with highs around 5 degrees above normal. This will place high temperatures in the lower valleys in the mid 90s to around 100 degrees.. An uptick in mid-level moisture will accompany this pattern as the flow aloft becomes more southwesterly. This will bring a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms to the higher terrain along the ID/NV border each afternoon and evening, with lesser chances (10% or lower) elsewhere. Storms may produce gusty winds 40-50 mph. Meanwhile, an upper level trough over the Pacific Northwest will start to move inland on Saturday. This will bring a few degrees of cooling to the area. The trough will enhance west to southwest flow aloft today through Saturday, allowing breezy conditions with gusts 15-30 mph, highest across the central ID mountains, to develop each afternoon as winds aloft mix down to the surface. Regional fires will continue to send smoke into our area at times over the next couple of days. LONG TERM...Sunday through Thursday...The upper level trough will persist over the Pacific Northwest early next week, then slowly move east by the middle of next week. This will bring temperatures a few degrees below normal, warming back to near normal by Thursday. The core of the trough and most accompanying precipitation should remain to our north, but a slight chance (15-25%) of showers and thunderstorms will develop over northern areas Monday and Tuesday, with lower chances south. The trough will keep afternoon winds breezy through the period. && .BOI WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... ID...None.
