Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Boise ID
915 PM MDT Sat Oct 11 2025

.DISCUSSION...Light scattered showers continue across the region
this evening. Satellite and regional radar showing an organized
area of precipitation development is advancing through eastern
WA and northeast Oregon this evening. Still expect this area of
rain/snow to cross our region overnight focusing on Baker County
and the w-central Idaho mtns, with shower activity trailing off
to the south. Snow levels are generally 5-6kft overnight,
dropping as low as 4.5kft across e-central Oregon and w-central
Idaho Sunday morning. This will bring a rain/snow mix or brief
period of wet snow to mountain valleys. Any minor accumulation
would be short-lived and limited to colder surfaces. The heavier
snowfall is still limited to elevations above 6kft with general
1-4" amounts and locally up to 6" above 7kft. Made minor
changes to the snow level for tonight that nudged up mtn
accumulations, otherwise forecast is on track.

.PREV DISCUSSION...
SHORT TERM...Tonight through Monday night...An upper trough will
move eastward across our CWA this evening. Another upper trough
will move southward along the northwest coast Sunday. These
troughs will maintain cool, showery weather through Monday.
Showers from the first trough will affect northern areas tonight
and Sunday morning. Showers from the second trough Sunday
afternoon through Monday will stay mainly in Oregon. Snow level
will lower to 5000 feet MSL north to 6000 feet south tonight
through Monday. Total rainfall through Monday morning will be
25 to .60 inch in northern mountains, .05 to .25 inch in
eastern Oregon, and less than .05 inch in southeast Oregon and
southwest Idaho. Total snowfall will be up to 4 inches in
northern mountains, with little or no accumulation elsewhere.
Northwest wind 10 to 20 mph this evening, with gusts to 30 mph
in the Snake Basin and in southeast Oregon. Less windy Sunday
and still mainly from the west or northwest.

LONG TERM...Tuesday through Saturday...A cutoff low pressure
system is forecast to move over central CA Tuesday and then
northeast across NV and over southern ID by Wednesday afternoon.
Wrap-around subtropical moisture will impact the forecast area,
especially Tuesday night and Wednesday across SW ID and far SE
OR where probability of precipitation is 60-80 percent. Snow
levels are forecast to be in the 6-8K feet range. The upper
low is forecast to pull away from the area Wednesday night
and Thursday with a decreasing trend in precipitation in NW
flow. A shortwave trough embedded in the NW flow is forecast
to move across ID on Friday with a continued chance of
precipitation mainly for the northern mountains heading into
the weekend. Below normal temperatures are expected through
the extended period, especially Wednesday and beyond.
