Public Information Statement
National Weather Service Birmingham AL
901 AM CST Sun Feb 2 2025

...This is Severe Weather Awareness Week in Alabama...

February 3rd through 7th, 2025 has been proclaimed Severe
Weather Awareness Week in Alabama by Governor Kay Ivey, in
partnership with the National Weather Service and the Alabama
Emergency Management Agency. Throughout the week, Alabamians
are encouraged to learn and/or review actions necessary for
protecting their lives during severe weather. Advance
planning and increased awareness will help residents survive
these potentially deadly storms.

Severe weather has occurred in Alabama every month of the year
and at all times of the day and night, including tornadoes,
straight-line winds, large hail, and flooding. Tornadoes are
especially impactful to our region due to their frequency and
our societal vulnerabilities. Central Alabama`s tornado season
runs from November into May.

The National Weather Service Birmingham, Alabama office will
highlight a variety of severe weather safety information each
day on Facebook and X. Search for and follow NWS Birmingham.
Information will also be available on our website at weather.gov/bmx.
Weather permitting, a NOAA Weather Radio test will be conducted on
Wednesday, February 5th at 9 am, serving as a time for schools,
businesses, and residents to practice their severe weather
sheltering plans.
