.DISCUSSION...
Calm and clear weather is found across western and central North
Dakota. High temperatures this afternoon are forecast from the
lower 80 to mid 80s, with minimum relative humidity dropping as
low as 30 percent across portions of the southwest. Southeast
winds are expected to remain fairly light through the afternoon,
though may become breezy with sustained speeds around 10 to 15 MPH
and gusts up to 20 MPH in the southwest. Winds are then expected
to turn southwesterly overnight, remaining light. Low
temperatures overnight are expected to drop as low as the upper
50s to lower 60s, while max humidity recovery is only as low as 70
percent over portions of the south central, and generally greater
than 80 percent elsewhere.
Another clear day is then expected on Thursday, though some
isolated thunderstorms are possible along the International Border
in the afternoon and early evening. The chance of wetting precpitation
is low. Highs in the lower 80s to low 90s are forecast Thursday
afternoon, while minimum relative humidity drops as low as 25 to
30 percent across portions of the far west. South to southwest
winds are expected to remain light across the west tomorrow,
though may strengthen and become breezy, with sustained speeds
around 15 MPH and gusts as high as 25 MPH, across portions of the
far south central.
Friday into the weekend, a steady warming trend will bring highs
into the 100 to 105 degree range over much of western and south
central North Dakota. Minimum relative humidities during this
period are expected to drop as low as 15 to 20 percent across the
west and much of central all three days. With winds turning
northwesterly and strengthening Friday afternoon and evening, a
period of near critical to critical fire weather conditions will
be possible across portions of western North Dakota, mainly south
and west of the Missouri River. While lighter south to southeast
winds are then expected on Saturday, another round of gusty
northwest winds may promote near critical to critical fire weather
conditions on Sunday. We will need to monitor conditions and model
trends closely over the next few days.
