.DISCUSSION...

Scattered showers and thunderstorms are likely across the
southern two thirds of the state today, with locally heavy
rainfall. Cooler temperatures are also expected today, with
minimum humidity around 40 to 80 percent. Some storms could
produce strong and erratic winds gusts. Otherwise, winds should
remain around 10 mph or less. It will begin to warm back up on
Friday, with highs in the 80s east to 90s west. Minimum humidity
could fall to around 25 to 30 percent across much of the western
half of the state on Friday. Winds will remain light in most
areas on Friday, but northwest North Dakota could see southerly
winds increase to 15 to 20 mph during the afternoon.

Hot and dry conditions are expected for the weekend, with high
temperatures around 95 to 105. Minimum humidity around 15 to 20
percent is forecast south of the Missouri River in western North
Dakota on Saturday, falling closer to 10 to 15 percent on Sunday.
Central and northwest North Dakota could also see minimum humidity
as low as 15 to 25 percent on Sunday. Winds should remain light
in western North Dakota on Saturday, while a southerly breeze
around 15 mph increases from south central to northeast parts of
the state. Windy conditions are then expected across central North
Dakota on Sunday, with southerly winds around 20 to 30 mph and
gusts near 40 mph. Lighter, but still breezy winds at around 15 to
20 mph are expected in western North Dakota on Sunday, along with
a wind shift from southerly to northwesterly during the morning
or early afternoon. The combination of hot temperatures, low
humidity, and windy conditions could result in at least near-
critical fire weather conditions across much of western and
central North Dakota on Sunday.

Much cooler temperatures are expected on Monday, but it could
remain windy with minimum humidity still falling near 20 percent
in southwest North Dakota. Winds should become lighter after
Monday, with temperatures remaining cooler on Tuesday before
warming back up through the end of next week.
