398 FXUS61 KBGM 031853 AFDBGM Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Binghamton NY 253 PM EDT Sun Aug 3 2025 .SYNOPSIS... High pressure and dry conditions will continue to be in place for much of the week. Daytime temperatures are expected to continue rising through the 80s into midweek. Lows will be in the 50s and 60s. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/... Remaining pretty quiet in the near term with high pressure settled overhead through tomorrow night. With winds relatively light and skies clear, areas of valley fog are expected to form early the next couple of mornings. Smoke and haze from the Canadian wildfires will also continue to be overhead through tomorrow night across CNY and become more noticeable across NE PA starting tomorrow. Low temperatures tonight will be mainly in the 50s. Temperatures will be on the rise tomorrow with the entire CWA into the low and mid 80s. Some valley locations in the Twin Tiers and NE PA will reach the upper 80s. Dew points will rise slightly into the upper 50s to near 60 tomorrow, but it still won`t feel too humid. Lows tomorrow night will range from the mid 50s to lower 60s. && .SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/... The center of the broad surface high will shift a bit Tuesday into Wednesday, becoming centered off to our northeast, but all- in-all, it will still remain pretty quiet. Elevated wildfire smoke can linger around the area Tuesday. With the high centered over eastern Quebec/Atlantic Canada, a weak backdoor front does look to drift south and west, that may trigger a stray afternoon or evening shower toward the tug hill or eastern Catskills, but the best chance of anything spotty will be off to the north and east of our area. Highs again on Tuesday look to be mostly in the mid and upper 80s with lows Tuesday night in the upper 50s to mid 60s. A slight repositioning of the surface high leads to the development of southeasterly flow off the Atlantic with more clouds anticipated by Wednesday which should take a few degrees off the high temperatures, especially for NE PA and the southern Catskills. Highs Wednesday will be in the upper 70s to mid 80s in these areas, while farther north and west remains in the mid and upper 80s. With an increase in moisture with the southeasterly flow, there can be a stray shower or two come Wednesday night. && .LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/... A more zonal flow looks to be in place Thursday into Friday. A pop-up shower or thunderstorm can`t be ruled out Thursday during the afternoon and evening, but these look to be high elevation heat source based with no real good trigger around. The GFS and ICON models are hinting at potential Western Atlantic tropical activity during the Friday-Sunday period and WPC has a synoptic low off the Carolinas on Day 7, otherwise we remain under a general influence of high pressure. Just something to keep in the back of the mind for now. && .AVIATION /18Z SUNDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... VFR conditions are expected to continue this afternoon through the TAF period for all terminals but ELM. Valley fog is to start to form at ELM around 08Z with the lowest restrictions settling in around 10Z before lifting shortly after 12Z tomorrow morning. Wildfire smoke is expected to keep conditions hazy tonight and tomorrow at the CNY terminals but no restrictions are expected. The smoke is expected to spread farther south toward AVP tomorrow. Outlook... Monday afternoon through Friday...Mainly VFR. Early morning fog possible most mornings at ELM. Wildfire smoke is expected to keep hazy conditions around into Tuesday. && .BGM WATCHES/WARNINGS/ADVISORIES... PA...None.
