Fire Weather Planning Forecast for northern Lower Michigan
National Weather Service Gaylord MI
354 PM EDT Sun Aug 3 2025

...Staying Dry with Light Winds and Warming Temperatures...

.DISCUSSION...Light westerly winds prevail through the rest of the
afternoon, with lake breeze processes directing a more easterly
flow through the Lake Huron bordering areas (including Huron
National Forest). Winds turn calm again tonight, and we basically
rinse and repeat into Monday... though with temperatures rising
farther into the 80s across the board. Light easterly flow is
expected Monday, with lake breezes turning flow westerly along the
Lake Michigan side this time (including parts of Manistee
National Forest). RHs once again will be dipping into the 30s,
especially across NW lower away from the Lake Michigan breeze. All
in all, fire danger remains low for the time being due to ample
green vegetation. That being said, a look at the forecast through
the rest of the week showcases warm temperatures (highs well into
the 80s, pushing 90 by the end of the week into the upcoming
weekend). Dry conditions will prevail through at least Thursday,
with some minor rain chances trying to nose in by the upcoming
weekend as a more humid airmass builds. We will have to see how
this affects vegetation across the area, and if winds can remain
calm enough to mitigate fire growth conditions.
