.DISCUSSION...
Multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms, some of which will
have the potential to become severe, will track through eastern
New York and western New England today. Particularly for Ulster
County, an initial round of light to moderate showers and
potential non- severe thunderstorms will occur this morning before
the probability for heavier downpours and potential severe
thunderstorms increases for this afternoon. Should a thunderstorm
reach severe strength, damaging wind gusts will be the primary
threat. However, an isolated tornado and large hail cannot be
ruled out. The greatest probability of severe thunderstorms for
Ulster County falls between 2 PM and 10 PM this evening, but
showers and additional non-severe thunderstorms could linger as
late as 2 AM tomorrow morning. Outside of this convection, there
are Air Quality Alerts in effect throughout the day due to smoke
drifting into the area from wildfires in Canada.
